“The beginning is the most important part of the work.” Plato The school came back to life this week with the arrival of our students and it was wonderful to see and feel the energy and excitement of new beginnings. This is such an important time for students and teachers as they start to form positive working relationships that form the foundations for effective learning. Our main focus has been settling everyone in and feeling comfortable with classmates and new teachers. For some students this comes naturally, for others it can take a little longer but please rest assured that our team are attentive to all our students' needs. Please give us a few days to work on this but if you have any doubts or concerns do not hesitate to contact us. Also, if you have any positive anecdotal moments and would like to share these with us, they are more than welcome; it is always enriching to reflect on our collective experience. On a broader front, we are very pleased to inform you that our international community of Orbital schools, of which we are an integral part, has welcomed two additional schools into the fold. We now have an additional school in Qatar, and a second school in Latin America, in southern Mexico. This expanding network of British international schools expands our horizons and networking possibilities. One final reminder, please remember that we will be continuing with our heightened precautions against COVID for at least one more week so please make sure all students have a face mask. Thank you for your support. Have an excellent week! David Jones Principal Dates for Your DiaryAs always please check this section carefully and ensure that you have all the details in your calendars.
David Jones Principal BSQ – Primary What a wonderful week it has been! The primary team have been delighted to welcome back students and to see and hear the school once again come alive. Children never cease to amaze us in how they adapt and thrive in new circumstances and the return to school and transition to new year groups has been no different. New friendships have been formed and old ones rekindled in our short time back on campus and there is a real buzz to see how the next few weeks unfold. We are pleased to announce that Canvas pages are updated and that all parents should now have access. Please use this platform to find any class specific announcements or information. If you do have any issue accessing Canvas, please do reach out to myself ([email protected]) or Ms. Sandy Pazmino ([email protected]). With regards to the upcoming meet the teacher events, we will be in contact with you in the coming week to confirm details and information. Finally, I would just like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your warm welcome to the school community. Lewis Hutchinson Head of Primary BSQ – Secondary It has been a hugely rewarding and welcome return to school for our students and staff. What has particularly impressed us has been the speed in which relationships have been formed with our new staff. Of course, there are the inevitable bumps on the way with settling into an environment of high expectations and challenging learning. As we informed you last week, we consistently achieve outstanding exam results and for this to be secured we need to continually aim high. Last year’s graduates are now continuing their learning journeys in excellent local and international universities here in Ecuador, Europe and North America. Over the next few months several of our new cohort of future graduates will be starting selection procedures to study medicine in the UK and secure places at Oxford and Cambridge Universities. We wish them the very best of luck in this vigorous selection process. Thank you for your patience with the start of the enrichment programme and for allowing us the opportunity to organize this in a timely way. There are some exciting plans ahead and these will start to appear from Wednesday 31st. We have some exciting events ahead of us with year 7 and 9 heading off to their residential events at the end of September. Please look out for the communication and payment details as we would like as many people as possible to take part in this important opportunity. Year 7 parents please look out for the arrangements for the year 7 tie ceremony on the 9th of September. You will be invited to take part in this important event where we welcome students into the secondary school. Incidentally, they have been excellent so far with everyone settling in well. Those students who had their Duke of Edinburgh (D of E) expedition cancelled at the end of last term will be participating in the rearranged event in a couple of weeks. Again, please look out for the communication on this from Mrs. Davila who is leading D of E this year. Finally, we all look forward to the welcome back picnic on Saturday 17th September. This is a great opportunity to meet the new teachers and take a moment to enjoy our glorious grounds. We look forward to seeing you there supporting your son or daughter and our community. Have a wonderful week everyone Lee Moors Head of Secondary Year 13 As school starts, we are all very nervous and excited about what the year will bring. We all have big expectations and want to make it the best last school year. There have been many changes within the school but we know that there will be a lot of support from our teachers as we finish our school journey. These are some of the expectations that we have: “I am looking forward to seeing the IB music concert at the end of the school year where I'm sure we'll get to see some wonderful performances from the music students. I'm also excited about the end of the exams and our Y13 trip. “- Aitana “I'm excited about my last year. I want to enjoy the time I have left with friends and learn. Time flies by.” - Anto “I hope to meet as many people as I can while strengthening the bonds I already have with my friends. I expect this year to be the best one yet, and to create several meaningful memories that will last me a lifetime. “- Oli “In this last year, I hope to push myself to my limits and have the best academic year. Apart from this, I want to spend all the time possible with the people around me.”- Feli "To not fail the IB" -Vale Natalie Moors Teacher of Secondary English and Humanities BSQ – Newsletter 2 2022-2023 |
