BSQ – Primary Dear BSQ Community, Let me begin with a huge thank you to the cast of the Year 6 Greek Mythology and the Secondary Sound of Music plays. Both groups gave it their all and the wonderful performances were a testament to the hard work and determination of the cast. A huge thank you also goes to Ms. Maria Fernanda and Mr. Santiago for all of their hard work in organising the event, which has taken lots of effort over many months. I want to give a huge thank you to all the parents attending parent teacher conferences today. It is always a pleasure for the academic team to discuss your child’s progress with you and to continue to strengthen our home-school partnership. We understand there has been frustration with a lack of trips and sports fixtures due to the current state of exception. This has also been a challenging time for us, and we share those frustrations. However, the Ministry of education is now relaxing the guidelines around trips and fixtures, and we are beginning to plan these for the next term. Mr. Fernando is liaising with other schools to determine some upcoming fixtures and year groups are planning or considering tripos for the coming term too. This Thursday, March 28th, we are having a non-uniform day in primary with children invited to dress up as their favourite movie character. This is an optional event but those dressed up are asked to pay $1 for participating, with funds being raised for primary school council initiatives. There will also be a bake sale during first break with students encouraged to bring another dollar to buy a treat should they wish. I would like to reinforce the timings of the school day as we are unfortunately receiving several students late in the morning and several students are also with us late in the afternoon. The drive-through opens at 7.40am and students should be dropped off at school by 8am at the latest. In the afternoon, the drive-through opens at 3.15pm and students should be collected by 3.40pm at the very latest. We appreciate your support in this matter. Please recall that this Thursday, March 28th, is a half day for students with classes ending at 12pm. This day marks the start of our spring break with students returning to school on Monday April 8th. I wish you all a wonderful break. Lewis Hutchinson Head of Primary Year 3B Year 3B has been having fun and getting dirty with lots of hands-on science activities this term. After learning how different types of rocks are formed, they performed a number of tests on different samples to determine permeability, hardness and density. They also used magnifying glasses and their keen observation skills to help group the samples according to their characteristics. We then turned our attention to soils and learned how different soils come from different types of rocks. Soil samples were taken from different locations and we examined them closely, noting differences in their appearance, what they felt like and what we found in them. Everybody enjoyed having some wiggly worms visit the classroom! We have also been learning all about Ancient Egypt. So, we took a break from learning all about rocks to investigate how mummification works. At the beginning of term we mummified tomatoes by scooping out the seeds and covering them in a salt and bicarbonate soda mixture. It was very exciting (and a little bit smelly) when we finally opened the jars on Monday to observe the results. Kind regards Elise BSQ – Secondary Dear Parents, I want to start expressing my heartfelt gratitude for your support and participation in our recent musical adaptation of "The Sound of Music." It was truly heartwarming to see so many of you in attendance, cheering on our talented students from Secondary. Last Friday's performance was nothing short of spectacular. Our students showcased their incredible talent and hard work, leaving the audience mesmerized and earning a well-deserved standing ovation. I would like to extend a special thank you to Ms. Fernanda Espinosa and Mr. Santiago Herrera for their dedication and guidance throughout this amazing journey. Their efforts have truly made a difference in our students' lives. Additionally, I want to acknowledge Mrs. Lucia Palomeque for her exceptional artistry, which added another layer of beauty to the entire production. Your contributions are deeply appreciated. I would also like to thank all the parents who took the opportunity to meet with teachers during the Parent-Teacher Conferences on Monday. Your involvement and collaboration are invaluable in ensuring the success of our students. As a reminder, this Thursday will be a half day, with students leaving campus at 12:00 p.m. to begin a well-deserved vacation period. Classes will resume on Monday, April 8th. Once again, thank you for your ongoing support and dedication to our school community. I look forward to seeing our students return refreshed and ready for the next phase of learning and growth. Warm regards, Paola Montenegro Head of Secondary Science week ´8th-17th March was British Science week, with the theme of Time to celebrate it's 30 year anniversary. We celebrated this event in Secondary with two days of activities for the students, and a poster competition which spanned the week. During the two days students had to design a space shuttle which would carry an egg. Working in teams they had to build a prototype, then explain why they had chosen this design, including costings. This culminated on Friday where they had to test their prototypes. There were many innovative designs and the students worked brilliantly together across the year groups, showcasing great team work. The furthest to fly without the egg breaking won. Well done to Cayambe who got first and second place, then Iliniza in third. A definite highlight was the enthusiasm from Josefa Contreras Muños (Year 9) about her space shuttle design. Usually a quiet and fairly shy student, Josefa stood in front of the whole of secondary school and explained her design. Well done Josefa!!! The winners of the poster competition will be announced after the Easter break.
Nadine Parker
