BSQ – Primary Dear BSQ Community, I hope you enjoyed a restful, long weekend. I would like to say a huge congratulations to Year 1 who last week represented BSQ and the United Kingdom in a day of multi-cultural diversity at Colegio Einstein. They participated in games and events, showing our school values throughout the day. Well done! Last Wednesday was our careers afternoon. Students across the school were given the chance to meet and ask questions of people from various careers. This enabled students to understand the many pathways that they can choose for their futures and stimulated conversation around future aspirations. Many thanks to the volunteers who came to the school to speak with the students and to Mrs. Woollard for her organisation of the event. Please allow me to make a plea regarding the drive-through. To maintain student safety, we ask that parents refrain from stopping on the zebra crossing. Additionally, we ask that cars move down to the end of the drive-through wherever possible to enable a smooth flow of traffic. Thank you. Next week looks like a relatively normal week in primary. However, I would like to take this opportunity to remind you that the following week, we will be hosting the primary sports day on Wednesday June 5th. Please be reminded of the schedule below. Nursery – 8.30 – 9 Reception – 9. – 9.30 Year 1 & Year 2 – 9.30 – 10.10 Years 3, 4, 5 & 6 – 1.45 – 3 I wish you a wonderful week ahead. Lewis Hutchinson Head of Primary 1A Last week, Year 1 had a very busy week. We were delighted to be invited to attend the Sub 6 World Cup sporting event at Colegio Einstein to celebrate the International Day of Cultural Diversity. This event gave us the opportunity to interact with other similar aged children from different schools around Quito. We participated in a range of activities including jumping over hurdles, scoring goals and going front rolls. Look at us representing the United Kingdom- We also celebrated Career’s Day last week. We came to school dressed up as the career that we wanted to be in the future. We discussed the different jobs that we knew and how these can become careers for different people. At the end of the day, we were visited by different professionals who came to talk to us about their jobs and what they duties were. Look at the fun we had BSQ – Secondary Dear BSQ Community Last Thursday was a tremendous success with the Year 11 IB Informative Session and the Year 9 IGCSE Session. Students and parents participated actively, discussing our diverse subject offerings. These sessions are crucial in helping students make informed decisions about their educational paths. Year 11 and Year 9 students will have their taster sessions, allowing them to explore different subjects before making their final choices. These sessions are instrumental in helping students select the subjects that best align with their interests and future goals. We are thrilled to announce that our official IB exams have concluded. Our Year 13 students are now embarking on the Futures Program, designed to prepare them for university life. This program equips them with essential skills and knowledge for their next educational chapter. I am also excited to invite you to the KSE Art Exhibition on June 3rd. Our talented students from Years 7, 8, and 9 will showcase their skills in art, drama, and music. It promises to be a wonderful event celebrating our students' creativity and hard work. Please save this date in your calendars. This week, we also have our own tournament PLAY FOR A DREAM taking place. We encourage everyone to come and support our students as they compete and demonstrate their sportsmanship and teamwork. Day 1: Tuesday, May 28th - Match 1: BSQ vs. Marie Clarac at 12:45 – 13:50 Day 2: Wednesday, May 29th - Match 2: Antares vs. Marie Clarac at 12:45 – 13:50 Day 3: Thursday, May 30th - Match 3: BSQ vs. Antares at 13:55 – 15:00 Day 4: Friday, May 31st - Final: Winner 1 vs. Winner 2 at 13:30 – 15:00 On the other hand, Ms Cecilia, CAS and Community Projects students have a message for you Dear parents/carers and students of BSQ, As part of the programme of CAS -Ceativity, Activity and Service- as well as Community Projects, we develop every year an activity with the youth centre Sinsoluka, located in the Centro Histórico de Quito. This centre takes around a 100 children -ages 3 to 18- in a vulnerable situation to support them with their studies, physical and emotional needs and providing food and school material. Every year, our Year 12 students organise and celebrate with them el Día del Niño. This is a very special celebration for all of them. Year 12 is always in charge to prepare them a party and gives them school material for the start of next academic year. To make of this a memorable day, we need your support. Along next week -27th to 31st May- we will be collecting some hygienic products such as deodorants, toothpaste, toothbrushes, sachets of shampoo, etc; we will also be collecting school material that our students don't use any longer and clothes which are in good conditions but our children do not wear anymore. This year, apart from collaborating with Sinsoluka, we have started a project to build a library in the school Enrique Ponce Gangotena. A school in a very humble area in Itulcachi. In order to make this project successful, we are also collecting used books that might be getting rusty in our houses to give them a new life. The theme of the campaign is "Un niño, un libro" and even when it is mainly directed to Primary students, it is also open to all students and families at BSQ. I know that there is no more satisfaction than helping others, however, as an encouragement, the PA has kindly offer to organise a pizza party to those classes in Primary and Secondary that donate the most. So, please, if you are so kind, support our iniciative and send your son/daughter to school next week with some of the following products: -Used but in good condition clothes (including socks, T-shirts, etc.) -Used books (mainly for Primary) -Hygienical products (deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrush, hygienical towels, sachets of shampoo, etc). Thank you very much from all the students who are part of CAS, Community Projects and myself. Without your continuous support our projects wouldn't be so successfull. Yours sincerely, Ms Sanchez We look forward to seeing you at these events and celebrating our students' achievements together. Best regards, Paola Montenegro Head of Secondary Trip to Cuenca From May 13th to 16th, Year 10 and 12 embarked on an unforgettable journey to Cuenca. These four days were not just a break from routine but a gateway to forging new friendships and honing essential life skills like teamwork. The bustling streets of Cuenca became their playground as they immersed themselves in the city's vibrant culture. Museums unveiled the secrets of its storied past, while leisurely strolls revealed architectural marvels that seemed straight out of a fairytale. But the real magic happened at the Ingapirca Inca ruins, where the whispers of ancient civilizations echoed through time, enlightening minds and igniting imaginations. In the quaint town of Chordeleg, the artistry of jewelry making unfolded before their eyes, igniting sparks of creativity and admiration. They then had the opportunity to treat themselves or loved ones to a few gifts, On the last day, Year 12 embraced the challenge of collecting data in the meandering currents of a local river, a task integral to their IB Geography coursework. What ensued was a symphony of collaboration, as students, regardless of their academic background, rallied together, collecting data for the Science collaborative project. Ingeniously fashioning quadrats from 'lolly-pop' sticks and string, they delved into the depths of scientific inquiry with gusto. JP's zeal even led him to amass a hefty 3kg of soil to bring back and test in the labs here at school. Now, as they return home, memories etched in their minds and data in hand, anticipation simmers for the culmination of their efforts—a final presentation slated for July 19th. Until then, the echoes of Cuenca's charm linger, a testament to the transformative power of exploration and camaraderie. STEM DayOur CommunityWe are pleased to announce that Bruce, a 4B student, has secured 3rd place in the first round of the National IAME X30 Championship in the Mini Swift karting category. This competition took place on May 4th and 5th at the Kartodromo in Quito. The upcoming rounds will be held in Guayaquil, Cuenca, Loja, and will conclude in Quito. Congratulations to Bruce and we wish him great success in the upcoming races! Nursery – 8.30 – 9 Reception – 9. – 9.30 Año 1 y Año 2 – 9.30 – 10.10 Años 3, 4, 5 y 6 – 1,45 – 3 Les deseo una maravillosa semana por delante. Lewis Hutchinson Head of Primary 1A La semana pasada, Year 1 tuvo una semana muy ocupada.
