Thought for the week; “Punctuality does not just refer to arriving at a location on time; it also refers to taking actions on time.” Source unknown Congratulations to Oscar Tabango and our two year 12 students, Martin Carrera and Bernarda Conrrado. After being selected to represent Ecuador in Qatar, they have now beaten off international competition to make it through to the finals of the Goal 22 social development projects in Miami. We are very proud of them and wish them the best of luck in this next leg of the competition. Some important administrative announcements for this week. Our Annual Awards Ceremonies are rapidly approaching. If your son or daughter has been nominated for an award you will receive a personal invitation to the event. All members of the community are cordially invited but we know that the event obviously has more appeal if your child is due to receive an award. We have now sent out the re-enrollment link for reserving your child’s place for the next academic year. Please complete this as soon as you can as we are already in the process of forming our class groups for the next academic year. If you have been supporting our plastic recycling campaign ´Botellas de Amor’ then please make sure to send in any plastic filled bottles that you have at home by the end of this week. The recycling organisation will be coming to collect everything on Friday. Please note that Ms. Sandy Pazmiño is out of school taking a short break. She will be back on Wednesday. If you need anything in the meantime, please contact Ms. Victoria Naranjo: [email protected] And finally, please don’t forget to send us a photo of your favourite moment from this academic year for our end-of-year photo collage. We wish you all a very good week. David Jones Principal Dates for Your Diary BSQ hosts leading experts to discuss ESD 2030 - POSTPONED UNTIL SEPTEMBER June 21-23: Huasquila Lodge - Year 6 Residential June 28th: Transition assembly and end of primary party - Year 6 June 29th: Annual Awards Ceremonies June 30th: Graduation Ceremony – Year 13 David Jones Principal BSQ – Primary Dear BSQ Community, Last week saw a week of transition with students returning to BSQ meeting their new class teachers and Year 6 spending three days in the secondary school. This transition process is incredibly important in preparing students for the next academic year. It is also important for leaving students to support them in their transition away from BSQ. This week, we wish our Year 1,2 and 3 students a great trip when they visit Parque Metropolitano on Tuesday to see the art installations on display. Year 4 are also on a trip on Wednesday, visiting a clothes factory to further their understanding on their topic of ´fast fashion.´ Additionally, we wish Year 6 the best of fun on their trip down to Tena on Wednesday for their residential at Hasquila Lodge. A great three days await them! Next week is our final week of term with the final day for primary students being Thursday June 29th, the day of the awards ceremonies. I wish you a wonderful week ahead. Lewis Hutchinson Head of Primary Year 2 In Year 2, we are in the process of creating a 'money bank' in Art lessons. Over the past 2 weeks, we have been using a balloon and papier mâché to create the foundation for our 'money banks'. Next week, we are going to begin decorating our 'money banks' in the design of an animal (see the example picture). We are all very excited to see how they turn out! Ms. Hannah Kerigan BSQ – Secondary 16th June 2023 What a week! It has been amazing to welcome our largest ever cohort to year 7 during transition this week with Year 6 enjoying 3 action packed days enjoying time with their new secondary teachers. There will be a 2 form entry to the Secondary School for the first time next year which is an excellent example of growth for the Secondary School. The students have been experiencing the freedoms of Secondary life with the need to follow a timetable, independently being organised and in place at the right time, and enjoying the freedoms of breaks and lunch activities. The access to the older students for the lunchtime football has been very competitive with those taking part having a great time. I personally enjoyed taking them all for their PE lesson and I have to say I am very impressed by each and every one of them with regard to their teamwork and how hard they worked for me. As I write I am listening to all of KS3, including the year 6 students playing ‘Quidditch’ on the field, made famous from the Harry Potter Films. This is a secondary school favourite event which we invested in last year by buying the goals. I am sure that Mr McNeil and Mr Prosser will share wider photographs with you all. A huge well done to Miss Standley and all of the other staff in the background for making this such a successful and well received event. Hopefully all of the year 6 students are now looking forward to moving into Secondary as well as now having the start of some really positive relationships with their new Secondary teachers. Year 11 have been in the Galapagos this week and from what I have heard this has been far from a holiday. They have been trekking, doing conservation work, and spending much time swimming and exploring the outstanding marine environment that the Galapagos offers. I am sure that life long memories have been forged through the experience. We all look forward to some pictures and a report from them all next week when they return. Thank you again to Mr Butler and Mrs Rocio for ensuring they had a great time and were safe. Staff taking students on these events make a huge commitment and sacrifice of time for them to be successful. They both deserve our thanks. I spent a couple of days putting year 12 to the test in their leadership experience this week. This is now an annual event to put some training in place for the year 12 as they transition to year 13, the next leaders of the school. This is also an event that allows us to look closely at them to inform our decisions about appointments to the Student Head of school roles. We have now made our decisions and these will be presented at the Award ceremony on the 29th. There experienced dry team building tasks, critical thinking and communication tasks, and to finish it off on the Monday there were water based challenges that ended up in our new pool. On Tuesday we visited a teambuilding provider off site and had a fantastic day with other activities and leaders that tested everyone. As you can see from the pictures everyone had a very challenging, and fun time. We are getting very close to the end of the term now and next week we are saying farewell to our year 13 students. Their leavers assembly takes place on Tuesday and I am sure that there will be some tears as they process through the school and listen to my farewell words for them. I am extremely proud of them all for their achievements due to the challenges they have faced over the last 4 years. If you are a year 13 parent, please try to come along as this is my chance to say a few words as I am unable to attend the Graduation event this year. After next week we are into the last week of celebrations. I am pleased to say that we have lots of fun planned with a visit to the cinema for all, and lots of fun activities planned on site. Just when we should be relaxing a little we are actually upping the pace to finish in a crescendo. Lee Moors Head of Secondary Year 12 Group 4 Project On Friday 16th Year 12 presented their group 4 project research and conclusions to the group. The presentations were fantastic and I was very impressed with the amount of hard work and dedication they showed. The presentations were a culmination of all of the work they did planning their investigation before their trip to Mindo, the data collection they completed on the field trip to Mindo and then analysing their results. They worked fantastically well in their groups, collaborating and using their scientific skills to analyse their results. They now have a solid understanding of the relationships between scientific disciplines and the overarching nature of the scientific methods. They understand the limitations of scientific study, and have developed essential skills which will benefit them in their future studies and world of work, such a collaboration, communication and presentation skills. Well done Year 12!!!! ¡Bien hecho Year 12!
