BSQ – Primary Dear BSQ community, A relatively quiet week for primary with living and learning at BSQ continuing successfully. As I mentioned at the welcome back events, it has been wonderful to witness how settled children have been from the outset of the school year. We would like to take this opportunity to offer clarification on House Events. These take place on a 6-weekly cycle. Class teachers will send a reminder through Canvas before the events in order for students to be prepared for wearing their house t-shirt. On days where there is not a House Event, students should not wear their house t-shirt. This week, we will have ‘Jeans Day’ on Thursday September 28th. On this day, students can pay $1 to wear jeans or $2 to wear jeans and a top of their choosing. There is no cost for wearing uniform as normal. The funds raised by this event will support Colitas Felices, an animal shelter based in Nayon. A worthy cause indeed! Finally, on Friday (September 29th) please be reminded that in line with our shared school calendar, this will be a half day for students. Therefore, students will finish school at 12pm. This is to enable further training and development for staff to ensure that BSQ remains at the forefront of the best global practices in teaching and learning. I wish you a wonderful week ahead. Lewis Hutchinson Head of Primary BSQ – Secondary Another busy week in secondary school! Y11, y12 and y13 were practicing for the Juramento a la Bandera, they attended a university fair on the school campus and learned more about new careers and universities offered around the world. As Mr Ruiz, our school university counsellor says, These types of events give the students opportunities to investigate, gather information, have direct interaction with universities and think about their future. Having something to look forwards to helps them create a purpose, a dream to fight for, or in this case, to study for. The inspiration and motivation of a student will always be one of the key factors for their achievements. “The most important thing is to try and inspire people so that they can be great in whatever they want to do” -Kobe Bryant And this week is the turn of KS3. As part of one of their many ways to help the community, KS3 has a lesson called Community projects. This is a service-learning programme that connects their academic curriculum with real-world problem-solving and allows them to develop character values, responsible behavior, and an ethic of service and civic responsibility. Moreover, they do some fundraising activities to support their initiatives proposed in class, that is why next week we have Jean’s Day, on September 28th. They have also organized some bake sales and games that secondary and primary students can participate in by contributing $1 or $2 dollars and all the profits will go to Colitas Felices and Jardin Alado, animal shelters and conservationist projects. More information has been shared to students by email. To wrap up, as Mr Hutchinson mentioned too, on Friday (September 29th) it is a half day for students, due to teachers' training. Therefore, secondary students will finish school at 12pm. Have an amazing week! Paola Montenegro Head of Secondary Year 10 We as tutors are glad to start our participation in the School Newsletter. As a start, we decided to give our students the first entry, so they can express their opinions regarding the school year. We hope everyone is enjoying this school year as much as we do. Our opinion of the school year so far is wonderful. It’s been almost a month since school started, and everyone is excited and full of energy. We have had many great activities so far. Just to begin, we had the welcome back picnic, which was great fun for all of those who attended, but one of the main highlights for me, so far, was the trip that the student council had yesterday to UDLA. It was a trip to participate in a conference about sustainability and "Botellas de amor", which I am sure most of you do already. On the trip, we also learned about illegal mining, which affects all of us in some way. In Year 10 we also had a great house event where all the secondary students get together to play and have fun. Ms Espinosa and Mr Sheridan Extracurricular ActivitiesDear Parents, We trust this message finds you well. The British School Quito is excited to extend an invitation to our upcoming Extracurricular Programme Fair. Please refer to the attached PDF for comprehensive details and information. We look forward to your participation. Oscar Tabango Enrichment Coordinator
Our CommunityLast Saturday, the students Tiziana and Tábatha were part of the II 2023 children's tournament held by the Rancho San Francisco Club where around 13 swimming clubs participated. Within the competition they obtained excellent times in the four different styles they performed. Their determination and passion for swimming is undeniable! Mila, a Y7 student, participated in the third national Grade 2 tennis tournament that was held in Salinas. Of which she was a finalist! We congratulate Mila for her great effort and heart in this very demanding discipline. Oscar Tabango Enrichment Coordinator
