BSQ – Primary Dear BSQ Community, Thank you to those of you who were able to attend the ‘Extra-curricular Fair’ on Tuesday and Wednesday last week. We are excited to re-start the extracurricular programme that we know has been desired by so many of our parents and students. A huge thanks to Mr. Oscar Tabango for arranging the programme and please do reach out to him at otabango@britishschoolquito.edu.ec if you have any questions about the programme. On Friday, primary staff engaged in a session of continuous professional development, working on projects that students will engage with in the coming weeks. Across the school, we are encouraging students to think sustainably, and we are building upon the huge successes of last year such as our ‘World Food Day’ event. In the coming weeks, students in primary will be involved in projects rooted in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, encouraging them to think about the actions that they can take to make the world a better place. I wish you a wonderful week ahead. Lewis Hutchinson Head of Primary BSQ Runners! On Saturday 23rd September multiple members of staff took part of the Mindo Trail 2023. There were three distances available to run: 25km, 12km and 5km. The trails started at the central park, and then left off into the cloud forest, through rivers, over logs, through grass, through shaded areas, under low trees and down muddy slopes to name a few of the challenges faced. Over 500 people in total took part in the different races, and they were well represented by the BSQ community. The following teachers took part: Miss Sereni, Mr Bowles, Miss Standley, Mrs Mavrogiorgis, Miss Chamberlain (and Henry did the 5km too), Mr Prosser and Mr Butler. As well as this great teacher-group, there were friends and partners of BSQ staff running too. Lastly, there were a few of the BSQ community there to support the runners. A strong group with a great community feeling. This was the first trail run for some of the group, and the longest distance ran for others. Considering this, the group did fantastically well! A special shout-out to Miss Standley who finished second in her age category! The next race for the BSQ runners will be ‘Tierra de Osos’ near Ibarra on 22nd October, followed by the infamous Chota trail in February. Watch this space! Mr. Prosser BSQ – SecondaryLast week was an extraordinary week full of civism and joy, with Juramento a la Bandera where year 13 students were rewarded for their academic achievements from y5 to y12, their parents, special guest and our keynote speaker Mr. Paul McEvoy gave solemnity to the event. We had our first reward and recognition assembly, where all the students celebrated their excellent performance during this month of classes. Congratulations to all the house's point winners, they not only got a reward and recognition diploma but also had a delicious ice cream. Thanks to our Living Leads for organizing the assembly. Finally, this week the students of KS3 organized several activities for their community projects organizations, they sold espumilla, cookies, and cupcakes and organized a whole school jeans day. All the proceeds will be for Colitas Felices, a dog shelter and Jardin Alado as I mentioned last week. Thanks for supporting those initiatives. On behalf of our student council, they would like to share with the school community their sustainability project Botellas de Amor, for second year all secondary students will be participating more information you will find in the following infographic. I hope you have a lovely week! Paola Montenegro Head of Secondary Year 9 This has been a great start to the year for the community projects in KS3. The year 9 have been very active. This year they have already organised bake sales at lunch time to collect money for some our school charities. On Friday 29th September the year 9 also helped organise a jeans day in school, where students were allowed to wear their own jeans for the day. Money was paid and will also go towards colitas felices, a charity for helping stray dogs. Lewis Hutchinson Head of Primary ¡Corredores de BSQ!
