BSQ – PrimaryDear BSQ Community, We enjoyed a wonderful first week back after the break in what turned out to be a very sporty week. A group of Year 3 and 4 students and a group of Year 5 students represented BSQ in football tournaments held at Maria Clarac School. They represented the school brilliantly and will continue with their next tournament fixtures this week. Additionally, we had our wonderful sports festival on Friday. Thank you to all those that came and watched the primary football matches and a huge well done to the students for their participation. A huge thanks also to the parents who played in the staff vs parents football match, a great time was had by all! This Friday (April 19th) marks both our World Book Day and Teachers’ Day celebrations. Students are invited to dress up as a book character and will be involved in book-themed activities throughout the morning. The school day then finishes for all students at 12pm, when teachers will gather to celebrate Teacher’s Day. Dates for the diary: Dance Festival (23rd April) - information to follow Family Fun Day (May 18th) I wish you a wonderful week ahead. Lewis Hutchinson Head of Primary Year 5 We trust everyone had a restful and enjoyable vacation! Year 5 returned to school with great excitement and enthusiasm for learning. Our first Sustainable Project-Based Learning lesson kicked off with a visit to furniture shops in Paseo an Fransisco on Monday morning. During this market research phase, students captured images, sketched designs, and indulged in a well-deserved treat with some ice cream. It was a delightful start to our project, centered around the intriguing question: 'Can we reinvent the chair?' The school buzzes with excitement as various projects take shape across the primary level. Year 3 is exploring 'What is the shoe of the future?' while Year 6 delves into the significant query: 'How can I design a vegan-friendly food truck?' These projects foster critical and creative thinking, addressing important questions that spark curiosity and innovation. It's heartening to witness children returning to school with smiles on their faces, eager to learn and engage with one another. As we embark on the final stretch before our students transition to their next year groups, there's much to anticipate in the weeks ahead. Exciting trips, engaging projects, and special events are all on the horizon. Enjoy the Living and Learning together that the next term brings! Ms. Espinosa and Mr. Fernando PlayCelebrating the Success of Our School Plays In this edition of our school newsletter, we are thrilled to share the resounding success of our recent school plays. This year, we had the honour of presenting not just one, but two remarkable productions that showcased the incredible talent and dedication of our students. In Year 6, we delved into the captivating realm of Greek mythology with "Tales of the Greek Mythology". What made this production truly special was that it was chosen and meticulously edited in collaboration with our Year 6 students themselves. Meanwhile, in Secondary, we brought to life the beloved classic, "The Sound of Music". Originally slated for 2019, various factors led to its postponement. However, as one of our protagonists Anastasiia Satikova eloquently put it, "We waited four years to put this play on stage, and this year, we finally did it," proving that dreams do indeed “come true.” This endeavour was not merely about putting on a show; it marked significant milestones for our students. For the Year 6 students, it signified the beginning of their transition to Secondary, while for our Secondary students, it provided an opportunity to showcase their remarkable talents and skills. None of this would have been possible without the incredible teamwork and dedication of numerous individuals. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Performing Arts Team, our invaluable collaborators and volunteers, the administrative team, the heads of Primary and Secondary, the Year 6 tutors, and the parents who lent their unwavering support in various capacities. A special mention goes to our outstanding cast, whose commitment and effort shone through in every aspect of the production. From staying late for after-school rehearsals to practicing at home, memorizing lines, songs, and dialogues, and even sacrificing their Saturdays for extra practices, their dedication was truly commendable. I consider myself immensely fortunate to work with such an amazing team, and I am deeply grateful for their invaluable contributions to the success of these productions. For those eager to meet the talented individuals behind the scenes, including the students who worked tirelessly on backdrops and props, a QR code is provided below. Join us in celebrating their hard work and dedication! Maria Fernanda Espinosa Performing Arts and Music Teacher Our CommunityLuciano took part in a National Squash Tournament in Riobamba. Mientras tanto, en Secundaria, dimos vida al amado clásico, "The Sound of Music". BSQ – Primary Dear BSQ Community, Let me begin with a huge thank you to the cast of the Year 6 Greek Mythology and the Secondary Sound of Music plays. Both groups gave it their all and the wonderful performances were a testament to the hard work and determination of the cast. A huge thank you also goes to Ms. Maria Fernanda and Mr. Santiago for all of their hard work in organising the event, which has taken lots of effort over many months. I want to give a huge thank you to all the parents attending parent teacher conferences today. It is always a pleasure for the academic team to discuss your child’s progress with you and to continue to strengthen our home-school partnership. We understand there has been frustration with a lack of trips and sports fixtures due to the current state of exception. This has also been a challenging time for us, and we share those frustrations. However, the Ministry of education is now relaxing the guidelines around trips and fixtures, and we are beginning to plan these for the next term. Mr. Fernando is liaising with other schools to determine some upcoming fixtures and year groups are planning or considering tripos for the coming term too. This Thursday, March 28th, we are having a non-uniform day in primary with children invited to dress up as their favourite movie character. This is an optional event but those dressed up are asked to pay $1 for participating, with funds being raised for primary school council initiatives. There will also be a bake sale during first break with students encouraged to bring another dollar to buy a treat should they wish. I would like to reinforce the timings of the school day as we are unfortunately receiving several students late in the morning and several students are also with us late in the afternoon. The drive-through opens at 7.40am and students should be dropped off at school by 8am at the latest. In the afternoon, the drive-through opens at 3.15pm and students should be collected by 3.40pm at the very latest. We appreciate your support in this matter. Please recall that this Thursday, March 28th, is a half day for students with classes ending at 12pm. This day marks the start of our spring break with students returning to school on Monday April 8th. I wish you all a wonderful break. Lewis Hutchinson Head of Primary Year 3B Year 3B has been having fun and getting dirty with lots of hands-on science activities this term. After learning how different types of rocks are formed, they performed a number of tests on different samples to determine permeability, hardness and density. They also used magnifying glasses and their keen observation skills to help group the samples according to their characteristics. We then turned our attention to soils and learned how different soils come from different types of rocks. Soil samples were taken from different locations and we examined them closely, noting differences in their appearance, what they felt like and what we found in them. Everybody enjoyed having some wiggly worms visit the classroom! We have also been learning all about Ancient Egypt. So, we took a break from learning all about rocks to investigate how mummification works. At the beginning of term we mummified tomatoes by scooping out the seeds and covering them in a salt and bicarbonate soda mixture. It was very exciting (and a little bit smelly) when we finally opened the jars on Monday to observe the results. Kind regards Elise BSQ – Secondary Dear Parents, I want to start expressing my heartfelt gratitude for your support and participation in our recent musical adaptation of "The Sound of Music." It was truly heartwarming to see so many of you in attendance, cheering on our talented students from Secondary. Last Friday's performance was nothing short of spectacular. Our students showcased their incredible talent and hard work, leaving the audience mesmerized and earning a well-deserved standing ovation. I would like to extend a special thank you to Ms. Fernanda Espinosa and Mr. Santiago Herrera for their dedication and guidance throughout this amazing journey. Their efforts have truly made a difference in our students' lives. Additionally, I want to acknowledge Mrs. Lucia Palomeque for her exceptional artistry, which added another layer of beauty to the entire production. Your contributions are deeply appreciated. I would also like to thank all the parents who took the opportunity to meet with teachers during the Parent-Teacher Conferences on Monday. Your involvement and collaboration are invaluable in ensuring the success of our students. As a reminder, this Thursday will be a half day, with students leaving campus at 12:00 p.m. to begin a well-deserved vacation period. Classes will resume on Monday, April 8th. Once again, thank you for your ongoing support and dedication to our school community. I look forward to seeing our students return refreshed and ready for the next phase of learning and growth. Warm regards, Paola Montenegro Head of Secondary Science week ´8th-17th March was British Science week, with the theme of Time to celebrate it's 30 year anniversary. We celebrated this event in Secondary with two days of activities for the students, and a poster competition which spanned the week. During the two days students had to design a space shuttle which would carry an egg. Working in teams they had to build a prototype, then explain why they had chosen this design, including costings. This culminated on Friday where they had to test their prototypes. There were many innovative designs and the students worked brilliantly together across the year groups, showcasing great team work. The furthest to fly without the egg breaking won. Well done to Cayambe who got first and second place, then Iliniza in third. A definite highlight was the enthusiasm from Josefa Contreras Muños (Year 9) about her space shuttle design. Usually a quiet and fairly shy student, Josefa stood in front of the whole of secondary school and explained her design. Well done Josefa!!! The winners of the poster competition will be announced after the Easter break.
Nadine Parker BSQ – PrimaryDear BSQ Community, Last week was a fun and active week with House Events on Thursday and Friday and of course, our swimming gala on Saturday. A huge thank you to everyone for coming along to the first swimming gala in many years, it was wonderful to see the pool hosting the entire primary school in one day. The wonderful swimming that we witnessed is also a testament to Mr. Fernando and the wonderful swimming lessons that he leads for all primary students each week. Thank you, Mr. Fernando, for your hard work in the teaching of swimming and the organisation of saturday’s event. Another big event is coming up this week with the Year 6 Greek Myths and Secondary Sound of Music plays taking place this Friday. This is a valuable opportunity for parents to engage with teachers, discuss progress, and collaborate on strategies for academic success. Your participation is highly encouraged, as we believe that strong partnerships between home and school are key to student achievement. Paola Montenegro Head of Secondary Exploring the Future! Y8 Students Reflect on the Continents in 150 Years Dear parents, teachers, and students, We are thrilled to present you with a glimpse into the future through the imagination and curiosity of our eighth-grade students! In their recent geography class, they were challenged to imagine what the continents will look like in the next 150 years. Their theories and visions have left us amazed and deeply reflective about the fate of our planet. From the emergence of new lands to radical changes in topography, these young visionaries have shared their ideas with enthusiasm and creativity. Here are some of the most fascinating theories that have emerged: 1. Floating Technology Continent: Some students have speculated about the emergence of a completely new continent, formed by technological waste and synthetic materials. They envision a place where innovation and technology are the main features, with floating cities and renewable resources like solar and wind energy. 2. Fused Continents: Other students have predicted that the current continents will merge due to climate change and tectonic activity. They visualize a world where Asia and America unite, forming a supercontinent that will transform global geography and geopolitics. 3. Green Continent: Some optimistic students have imagined a future where nature regains control. They see a continent covered in lush tropical jungles and vast grasslands, where biodiversity flourishes, and sustainability is the priority. These theories are not just products of imagination but also reflect our students' awareness and concern for the environment and the future of our planet. They remind us of the importance of addressing current environmental challenges and working together to create a sustainable and prosperous future. As an educational community, we are inspired by the creativity and critical thinking of our students. We hope that these reflections on the future of the continents will motivate us all to take action to preserve and protect our beautiful planet Earth. Let's continue exploring together towards a promising future! Best regards, Year 8 PlayCPR SessionsDuring the science week at BSQ, students had a training session on how to do effective cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). The session was led by the school doctor Dr. Elizabeth Mbata, who taught the students how to identify signs of a cardiac arrest and when and how to carry out an effective CPR thereby saving a life. Studies show that 3.8 million people suffer a cardiac arrest outside the hospital globally, and only 8 to 12% of these people survive, so for us at BSQ, it is important to train our students on how to effectively do a CPR. Our Community Congratulations to Isabella from Y10 for her outstanding achievement! Obtaining third place in the National Ranking of Equestrian Jumping, in category B, is a testament to the incredible talent and dedication she possesses. Your hard work has paid off, and it is an honour to see you shine in this way. Your passion and effort are inspiring to us all. We sincerely congratulate you and wish you many more accomplishments in the future. May this be just the beginning of a journey filled with success and fulfilment! We are very proud of you, Isabella. Congratulations! Students from BSQ showcased their talents in a thrilling rock climbing competition. Among them, Clemente from Year 2 stood out by securing an impressive 2nd place in his age group. Equally remarkable was Felix from Year 3, who clinched the top spot in his age category. Their dedication and skill deserve applause, reflecting the spirit of excellence fostered at BSQ. Last weekend, Carlos Alberto from Y6 competed in a fencing tournament and won the gold medal. Congratulations to Carlos on his impressive achievement!

I wish you a wonderful week ahead. Lewis Hutchinson Head of Primary Dear BSQ community, Year 4A students have been studying the Civil Right's movement for the past term. We explored what 'segregation' meant and how different individuals such as Rosa Parks or Dr Martin Luther King Jr changed the way that racial differences were and are still perceived now. Students had the opportunity to explore racial discrimination around the world and developed their own ideas and opinions regarding what the future should look like. We studied Dr Martin Luther Kings Jr's speech 'I have a dream' and students were inspired to write their own versions. Have a look at our 4A dream... "I have a dream that one day black and white children can hold hands. I have a dream that the world has only good people. I have a dream that black and white people can be good friends. I have a dream that we have a better world with black and white people together. I have a dream that there is no more racism. I have a dream that black and white people can stay together. I have a dream that white and black people can play, eat, talk and work together. I have a dream that black and white people can have the same rights. I have a dream to change the world. I have a dream that no one fights. I have a dream that there is equality all over the world. I have a dream that there are no more racist people. I have a dream that we all have the same rights. I have a dream that people understand that God created us all equal." We encourage all the members of our community to think of your dream world and most importantly, act accordingly in order to make your dream come true. It's all in our hands! As you can see below, Year 4 students designed and painted their own mural outside our classrooms, inspired by the Civil Rights Movement. With the support of Mr Watts and Ms Hutchinson the result was wonderful! Ms. Vasilokonstantaki BSQ – Secondary We are thrilled to share the resounding success of our recent art exhibitions and musical presentation, showcasing the extraordinary talents of our students here at BSQ! Firstly, a heartfelt congratulations to Kailani and Maya, whose remarkable works were on display at the Art IGCSE Exhibition. Their pieces captivated audiences with their creativity, skill, and depth of expression. Their dedication and passion for the arts truly shone through in every brushstroke and composition. Equally deserving of praise is Ana Paula, whose participation in the Art IB Exhibition showcased her exceptional talent and commitment to artistic excellence. Ana's work exemplifies the breadth and depth of creative exploration that our students undertake, pushing boundaries and inspiring others along the way. Furthermore, we cannot overlook the outstanding musical presentation delivered by Andres, Marcel, and Cesar, IGCSE Music students. Their performance was nothing short of breathtaking, demonstrating not only technical proficiency but also a deep emotional connection to the music they presented. Bravo to these talented musicians! As we celebrate the achievements of our students in the arts, we also look forward to the exciting events planned for Science Week in Secondary next week. The theme of "Time" will be central to all activities, offering students a captivating journey through the intricacies of this fascinating topic. From interactive experiments to thought-provoking discussions, there will be something for everyone to engage with and learn from. Additionally, next Saturday 16th we have our second round of subject clinics. These clinics are compulsory for all students from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. During the clinics, each year's group will have the opportunity to delve into specific topics and activities identified by our teachers for revision and in-depth understanding. Students will rotate through various sessions and have time to relax and enjoy. Finally, don't forget to note in your calendars that the Parent teacher conferences for secondary school are on Monday 25th and more information will be sent in the coming days. Warm regards, Paola Montenegro Head of Secondary Y7 The year 7´s have been enjoying their first secondary year, creating friends and bonds with other students as well as teachers. It has been very pleasant to see everyone enjoying and learning various concepts in their different classes as well as in their enrichment choices. Mr. Daniel Ruiz PlayJoin us on March 22nd at 6:00 PM at the Cámara de Comercio Quito Auditorium for an unforgettable showcase of talent. Our primary students will transport you to the realm of Greek mythology, while our secondary students will dazzle you with their rendition of "The Sound of Music." But wait, there's more! Secure your seats early by purchasing tickets on campus at the Administration Meeting Room 4. Ticket sales will take place on March 14th, 15th, and 16th from 8:15 AM to 9:00 AM, and on Saturday, March 16th from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Don't miss this extraordinary opportunity to witness the magic unfold before your eyes. We can't wait to see you there! Book RecipeWe are excited to announce that the recipe book, which has been created in partnership between The British School Quito and the World Food Programme, with great thanks to all the families involved who shared their recipes, is currently being printed! This collection of recipes comes from the families of the school, who derive from a range of backgrounds and cultures. There is a diverse selection of snacks, mains and desserts which are not only nutritious but have also been chosen based on the level of sustainability. By purchasing the book you will be providing funds for the World Food Programme’s feeding program. All money goes directly to the WFP Schools Feeding Program, straight to the schools and children that need it most. In 2023, 1,135 school children in Ecuador’s rural schools were supported by the WFP. In 2024, WFP is expanding the program to further rural provinces within Ecuador. There are approximately 1 million students in rural schools in Ecuador which, with further funding, WFP has the potential to reach. Through the school feeding program, smallholder farmers provide fresh and nutritious ingredients to make the school meals. Ecuador has a 27% rate of chronic childhood malnutrition, the second-highest in Latin America and the Caribbean. This rate is 30% in rural areas for children under 2. Only 52% of households in Ecuador have affordable access to a diet of energy, protein, fat and micronutrients. Every $1 invested in school feeding has a US$9 return on investment for Ecuador. 1 hardback book purchased provides approximately 50 school meals - $30 1 ebook purchased provides approximately 30 school meals - $20 This collaboration of the British School Quito with the World Food Programme will hopefully be the first of many and the financial support from buying the book will make a huge difference to the people of Ecuador and the country as a whole. WFP representative will be present during the Primary swimming gala on Saturday 16th March to share more information and answer questions. Un cordial saludo, Paola Montenegro Head of Secondary BSQ – Primary Dear BSQ community, The end of the term is almost upon us. Whilst we reflect on this relatively short term, it has not been without its challenges as well as many successes. The greatest challenge that we faced was the swift transition to online learning. Now two weeks removed from this, I am left with a sense of pride of how wonderfully both staff and students (supported by families) moved to an online modality. It has been wonderful to see the seamless return to campus and to see children living and learning together as they should. This was clear to see last week with the wonderful house events held on Thursday and Friday last week. Please be reminded that Friday February 9th marks the end of the term, and all students will finish school at 12pm on that day. Students will return to school on Monday February 19th. I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a fantastic carnaval break. I wish you a wonderful week ahead. Lewis Hutchinson Head of Primary Nursery Newsletter Dear families, Since returning from the December break Nursery students have embarked on their Phonics Literacy journey. For our enthusiastic young learners this involves using their visual perception skills to visually discriminate between different letter shapes, learning letter-sound relationships to connect the sounds of the English alphabet with their corresponding graphemes and practicing elemental skills that promotes their self-confidence and fluency as they continue to undertake more complex challenges regarding their reading and writing. Already our eager learners have learned a variety of letter-sound correspondences. As well as, practicing their capacity to move their pencils anti-clockwise and re-trace vertical lines in preparation for forming letters correctly. Furthermore, throughout each lesson we provide opportunity to further expand and strengthen children’s English vocabularies – singing songs and listening to stories that are conducive with the letter sound of that week. It has been incredible to observe many of our young students already blending the individual sounds in words together so to listen and say a complete word aloud. Gerry Coiro BSQ – Secondary Dear BSQ community, I would like to emphasize the significance of promptly sharing and forwarding medical certificates to Dr. Elizabeth Mbata, our school doctor. Your cooperation ensures that she can effectively follow up on the recommendations provided by your specialists, contributing to the overall well-being of our students. Her email address is: e[email protected]. Additionally, please consider the importance of sending your child to school with a hat or cap to protect them from the sun and UV rays, particularly during outdoor activities such as lunch and breaks. This small measure plays a crucial role in safeguarding our students from potential sun-related risks. Moreover, I'd like to remind you that all secondary students have been assigned lockers since the beginning of the year. It is advisable for them to use these lockers instead of carrying around all their personal belongings. Rest assured; the lockers are secure. During these couple of weeks and after the break, we will continue emphasizing the importance of ensuring personal safety and creating a more organized and secure environment within the school premises. Lastly, this Friday y12 and ks3 students will feature various events to support CAS students and community projects, including a color run, bake sales, and more. Students' participation in these activities will greatly contribute to the success of these initiatives. Furthermore, a friendly reminder that Friday, February 9th, marks the end of the term, with all students concluding their school day at 12 pm (midday). School will resume on Monday, February 19th. I hope you all enjoy a fantastic week ahead and may your carnival break be filled with joy and memorable moments.
Paola Montenegro Head of Secondary BSQ – Primary Dear BSQ community, It was so wonderful to welcome students back onto campus last week, students were so excited to see each other, their teachers and to recommence in-person learning. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the maintenance, canteen and cleaning staff who worked hard to ensure that we could re-open at such short notice. We know that security is of paramount importance to us all now. I want to assure you all that our security provision is constantly being monitored and we are in regular contact with our security company to ensure that we are offering the safest environment possible. Indeed, you may have seen additional security personnel during drive-through times, evidence of our commitment to this area of school life. I wish you all a wonderful week ahead. Lewis Hutchinson Head of Primary BSQ – Secondary Dear BSQ community I want to express my gratitude for the warm welcome back to campus this past week and commend your ongoing dedication and hard work in contributing to our positive learning environment. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances from the last couple of weeks, we find it necessary to reschedule the "Juntas de Curso" originally planned for the 29th of January. The new date for these important teacher meetings will now be the 2nd of February. Due to this change, we inform you that there will be NO lessons on Friday. To ensure continuity in learning, teachers will upload and set up activities on Teams for their students, as the normal scheduled. This was informed last week in an email sent to all secondary parents and legal guardians. We appreciate your understanding and flexibility in this matter. We believe that these teachers' meetings will have a positive impact on the overall educational experience, and we look forward to the continued collaboration between our dedicated teaching staff and supportive parents. Finally, we are analyzing the continuity on some residential trips and sports fixtures and the new dates will be shared with you in coming days. I wish a lovely week ahead. Paola Montenegro Head of Secondary Our Community Our Year 4 student Leon won 6 gold, silver and bronze medals in the Cacha Flor men's artistic gymnastics tournament. What exciting news!
BSQ – Primary Dear BSQ Community, There is little to say this week over than to give our continued thanks. Attendance across primary in online learning continues to be excellent and once again the community has shown determination and resilience in difficult circumstances. At times like these, it is wonderful to see how a community unites to provide the very best for children in an unexpected situation. A huge thanks to the students, staff and parents for giving it your all. As the timeframe for returning to campus remains uncertain, as a primary leadership team, we are constantly reviewing our provision and are making changes as necessary. Indeed, we have begun this week with group phonics to ensure more bespoke phonics learning for students in Years 1 and 2. Also, if we remain online at the end of the week, we will provide online assemblies for students in Years 1 – 6. Whilst we hope to be back on campus asap, it is prudent for us to continue to monitor and evolve our online offer to ensure that it continues to be of premium quality, meeting the needs of our students to the best of our abilities. I wish you a wonderful week ahead. Lewis Hutchinson Head of Primary 6A 6A have been extremely impressive since we have moved online! The students remembered expectations and general online etiquette from the online learning days of the past, and entered last Wednesday with great enthusiasm. The punctuality and level of participation from the students has been appreciated and recognized; their efforts have surpassed the high expectations I have. A BIG thank you to all of 6A – please remind me to give you two marbles for your effort and participation. This term we started a new art topic: creating portraits using spray paint and stencils. We are going to link this to our current topic, “How have Human Rights changed throughout history? Specifically, women’s rights?” and create some fantastic portraits of inspirational women who have shaped our planet. Watch this space! At the moment we have focused on drawing portraits, using the correct proportions; then we looked at how we could change these portraits into the style of a stencil. Take a look at our work so far, and wait patiently to see the fantastic portraits we create in a few weeks! Mr Prosser BSQ – Secondary Despite the ongoing challenges, we had another extraordinary week at BSQ. Our students have once again demonstrated exceptional resilience and dedication to their studies. Attendance has been commendable across all year groups, with day-to-day monitoring ensuring that each student receives the support they need. Our dedicated teachers have been following up on lessons, providing valuable feedback, and fostering an environment conducive to continuous learning. The recently concluded Quimestre exams marked a significant milestone, and we want to express our appreciation for the hard work and commitment displayed by our students. Our educators are currently working diligently to compile grades and prepare comprehensive reports, which will be shared with you in the coming weeks. As we look ahead, we want to highlight the importance of maintaining routines, especially in the online learning environment. Establishing and adhering to healthy habits is crucial for our students' well-being and academic success. Encourage them to stay active, take breaks, and create a dedicated workspace for their studies. Next Monday January 29th, we will be holding "juntas de curso," where specific information regarding your child's progress will be discussed. Please be on the lookout for further details on this event. In these challenging times, the support and collaboration between school and home are more important than ever. Let's continue working together to ensure the success and well-being of our students. Thank you for your ongoing support. Paola Montenegro Head of Secondary Our Community We want to congratulate Juan Esteban from Year 11, because he received recognition for his social action work for the poor community of Valle de los Chillos. Juan Esteban delivered 30 boxes with clothes and toys, 20 hygiene kits and 60 supplies of oatmeal and noodles, this was the product of three months of work during which he requested clothes and toys in good condition from his maternal and paternal families and friends of his parents who responded generously. Juan Esteban had the job of classifying, sheathing and packing what was received in order to make the delivery. He loaded all the material and coordinated with the community promoters with whom he organized for delivery to the community. He had the assistance of his parents to transport him to do his work. This is exciting news that shows Juan Esteban's big heart.
BSQ – Primary Dear BSQ Community, I would like to start my newsletter this week by giving sincere thanks to all members of the community. A huge thank you to students for engaging so brilliantly with online learning, especially to our youngest students for whom this is their first time learning in this modality. Many thanks to parents for supporting your children to get online and for offering your support when needed, we understand the strain that this can put on families. Finally, thank you to our wonderful staff for the quick transition to online learning. Whilst none of us wanted to move to online learning (we always want in-person learning), the fact that we left campus on Tuesday afternoon and had a full online provision up and running by Wednesday morning gives me a sense of immense pride and was only achieved thanks to the hard work of staff, many of whom worked late into the night last Tuesday to make this happen. Whilst there is some uncertainty about our return to campus, we know we will be online until at least Wednesday. As soon as we have further information from the Ministry of Education regarding our return to campus, we will communicate with you. Finally, we understand that the current situation may have been taxing on the wellbeing of students. If you believe that your child would benefit from support from one of our school psychologists, please do not hesitate to contact either Ms. Dayana Rosales ([email protected]) or Ms. Johanna Salas ([email protected]). I wish you a wonderful week ahead. Lewis Hutchinson Head of Primary Year 5 Year 5 have been getting back to work on the school vegetable garden last week. After the Christmas holiday we saw a huge amount of weeds, which is a good sign as it rained when we were away. The class used some of their lunchtime to weed the garden, and I had a group of helpers who cut, washed and helped hand out some of our lovely produce to teachers. We asked everyone to send us some photos of the food they made using the school veg. Take a look at the results. Mmmmmm yummy. When we get back on campus it will be back to work for our year 5 students, who will be handing out veg to maintenance staff and cleaning staff that week. We will then be clearing some space for our next round of veg, sweat peas and courgettes! Even Nicole's (year 10) dragon was enjoying the school lettuce!! Munch munch Year 5B team. BSQ – Secondary Dear BSQ Community, As we embark on this week, Mr. Hutchinson and I would like to express my gratitude to each member of our school community for their resilience and commitment during these challenging times. First and foremost, a sincere thank you to our students for their remarkable engagement with online learning. Over the past couple of days, we have witnessed a massive attendance, and we expect nothing less in the coming days. We appreciate their adaptability, and their dedication to their studies has not gone unnoticed. We commend their efforts. To the parents, we extend our deepest appreciation for your unwavering support in facilitating this transition to online learning. A special note of gratitude goes out to our dedicated staff. Many staff members worked tirelessly into the night to ensure a smooth shift, and their dedication has not gone unnoticed. On a positive note, I would like to inform you that Quimestre exams are running as scheduled and are proceeding normally. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we navigate through this period of online learning. Additionally, I want to assure you that our dedicated team of living leads and tutors is actively monitoring online lessons. They are committed to providing support and ensuring that the learning experience remains engaging and effective for our students. Our living leads and tutors are also conducting regular check-ins to assess the well-being of our students, both academically and emotionally. Please encourage your children to reach out if they need any assistance or if they have concerns about their studies or personal welfare. Regrettably, I must inform you that, as a precautionary measure for the safety of all students, all residential trips and cultural trips planned for this month and until February have been canceled. We understand the significance of these experiences for our students, and new dates will be set once circumstances permit. We will keep you informed. Thank you once again for your understanding, cooperation, and continued support. Together, we will overcome these challenges and emerge stronger as a resilient and united BSQ community.
Un cordial saludo, Paola Montenegro Head of Secondary |
