BSQ – Primary Dear BSQ Community, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy New Year! May 2024 be successful and prosperous for us all. It was wonderful to welcome students back to campus last week and learning has picked up where it left off. It is always wonderful to see how excited everyone is to see each other after an extended break. You will see that Saturday 13th January is marked on our calendar as a staff training day. Students are not expected on campus on this day, but staff will be here to complete professional training to ensure that student experience at BSQ continues to be exceptional. As is often the case at the start of a new term, there are not any updates to give but we will share key dates and events as the term progresses. I wish you a wonderful week ahead. Lewis Hutchinson Head of Primary Happy New Year! I would like to take this opportunity to wish our community a healthy and happy 2024. As Living Lead for Primary and for all of us in school; the new year brings exciting learning opportunities and new challenges alike. We look forward to embracing these and working together toward our shared values of, Happiness, Caring, Welcoming, Determination, Respect and Ambition, at BSQ. In year 5, we have started off with a bang, as we go into our whole school topic this term of 'How have human rights changed history?' The children in Year 5, were separated into blue and green groups. There were certain rules that the blue group has to follow that the green group did not. This caused lots of discussion around what is 'fair'. We are looking forward to the conversations and challenging look at history that comes from this topic. Here's to a healthy, happy 2024! Mrs Woollard BSQ – Secondary Dear BSQ community, As we step into 2024, I want to extend my warmest wishes to each one of you for a Happy New Year! May this year bring abundant success and prosperity to our remarkable community. The atmosphere on campus last week was truly uplifting as we welcomed our students back after the extended break. The enthusiasm and excitement were palpable, creating an inspiring environment for everyone. Starting from January 8th to January 18th, we will kick off the quimestre exams for Year 7 to Year 10 and Year 12 students. Your commitment to ensuring a smooth and effective examination process is truly commendable, and I have full confidence in the positive impact it will have on our students' academic journey. Timetables have already been shared before the break with all year groups. On the other hand, please save the following days for your calendar.

Lewis Hutchinson Head of Primary ¡Feliz año nuevo! Hora: 10-2pm BSQ – Primary Dear BSQ Community, I would like to start with a big thank you to the Year 1 and Year 5 teams for their work in organising school trips last week. Year 5 learned all about environmental systems and processes on their farm trip and Year 1 students had a wonderful time at the Interactive Science Museum. Both trips were truly enriching and helped to bring some of the concepts learned in the class to life. I wish Year 6 and Year 4 the best ahead of their trips to Parque Armenia and Cotapaxi respectively this week. Please be reminded that this Friday, December 8th, is a public holiday and therefore there will be no school on this day. Despite this, we will have students from 4B, 6A and 6B performing at Paseo San Francisco as part of the Lights On! Celebration on Friday. Our students will be performing at 7pm and there is much to do at the festival so we encourage families who would like some festive fun to attend. A huge thanks to Mr. Santiago and Ms. Maria Fernanda for giving up time on their day off! I wish you a wonderful week ahead. Lewis Hutchinson Head of Primary Y3 B Year 3 have been learning all about earthquakes. The first half of term has been spent researching and learning about why and where earthquakes occur, what they feel like, how they are measured, their effects and what people can do to prepare for a possible earthquake. The students have been using and building their knowledge and skills across all subjects in this multi-discipline topic. We visited an earthquake simulator to learn what a high magnitude earthquake feels like and talked about how we felt before, during and after the experience. We also practiced safety procedures that should be followed in the event of an earthquake. Students have participated in multiple hands-on activities to solidify their understanding of tectonic plates and how their movements cause earthquakes and change the landscape. They built their own seismograph to understand how this piece of equipment measures the size of earthquakes and have been designing and building structures that can withstand earthquakes. Check this link for photos and videos: www.canva.com/design/DAF1XjzWlLw/KZGMw8NihX1YkH1Wa_PLzw/edit Ms Chamberlain & Ms Gaby BSQ – Secondary Dear BSQ Community, Last week marked a thrilling chapter in the journey of our Year 11 students, as they embraced a transformative experience while pursuing the prestigious Duke of Edinburgh's Silver Award. This endeavor showcases not just their academic prowess but also their unwavering dedication to personal development, leadership, and community service—a testament to the well-rounded individuals they are becoming. In tandem with this exciting pursuit, our students faced the challenge of mock exams for the IGCSE and, for our Year 13 students, the International Baccalaureate (IB). These simulated assessments serve as a dynamic platform for growth, providing invaluable insights that empower our students to navigate their educational path with confidence. As parents, you can take pride in witnessing the resilience and commitment your children are demonstrating, not only academically but also as emerging leaders with a profound sense of community responsibility. This convergence of accomplishments and challenges speaks to the vibrant and holistic educational experience we provide, ensuring your child's development extends far beyond the confines of traditional academics. The upcoming week is teeming with exciting opportunities for our younger students at Year 9. They are embarking on an educational journey to Cotopaxi, where they will have the privilege of being guided by the renowned vulcanologist, Theofilos Toulkeridis. This immersive experience promises not only adventure but also a deep dive into the fascinating world of volcanoes and geological wonders. Additionally, our students will be immersed in the vibrant celebrations of Fiestas de Quito, engaging in cultural festivities such as Cuarenta, EcuaVolley, traditional dance, and a captivating play that vividly represents the rich tapestry of Ecuadorian culture. As we revel in these cultural experiences, we are also gearing up for the first academic clinics of the year, scheduled for December 13th (from 10 am to 2pm). These clinics are designed to provide focused support and guidance, ensuring our students are well-prepared for their academic challenges. The week ahead promises a perfect blend of exploration, cultural enrichment, and academic preparation, fostering a holistic and dynamic learning environment for our students. Wishing you a delightful and fulfilling week ahead. Paola Montenegro Head of Secondary Our Community We are very happy to share with the community that our student Bruce came in 1st place in the IAME X30 Provincial Winter Karting Championship 2nd valid micro swift category. Congratulations!

The Christmas Bazaar takes place on Wednesday December 13th from 10am – 2pm. Finally, Term 2 ends on Friday December 15th at 12pm for all students. I wish you a wonderful week ahead. Lewis Hutchinson Head of Primary Y1 B Learning has been intense the last few weeks since our little ones began pulling their sleeves up and have started working on our Weather project-based learning. The children have been consolidating their knowledge about the seasons, deepening learning on different kinds of weather. Solving questions like: Why are there only two seasons in Ecuador? They have been exploring different extreme weather examples, causes, and effects. From the literacy point of view, students have learned about different kinds of factual documents, newspapers, magazines, leaflets and TV reports. Also, they have been introduced to the different features of these documents (title, subheadings, introduction, and sections). As a first practice, our students have summarized their learning in leaflets about the impact of weather on animals and Seasons in Ecuador. This week they will produce the Y1 Science Magazine to share with other members of the community. Project Based Learning – PBL, is a powerful teaching scheme which instills curiosity, practicality, critical thinking, and problem solving. PBL develops students’ skills such as research, collaborative work, creativity, and communication. Additionally, PBL promotes vocabulary development, reading and writing practice with specific purposes. Adriana Balseca 3A Newsletter The 3A class is having a wonderful time this term learning about earthquakes. The students of 3A are currently working on developing their researching, note taking and analyzing information skills. They are using a vareity of resources such as websites, books and experience´s from the teachers at BSQ. This past week we had a visit from The Department of Risk Management, who provided us with an unforgettable experience! The entire year 3 experience earthquakes in an earthquake stimulator vehical. The earthquake we expereinced was the same magintude of the earthquake that took place in Kobe, Japan in 1995. We learnt about how the strenght of this earthquake not only destroyed a lot of houses but caused a tsumani as well. In this earthquake stimulator, we practiced the safety measures we need to take in order to keep ourselves safe during an earthquake. The 3A students look forward to learning more about earthquakes and sharing their knowledge. Field trips like these offer invaluable hands-on experiences that go beyond the classroom, providing students with real-world applications of their academic learning. They not only enhance subject knowledge but also foster crucial skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, and effective communication. These experiences are instrumental in shaping well-rounded individuals who are better prepared for the challenges and opportunities they will encounter in the future. Here are some pictures of the experience. Ms. Natalie Sawyers and Ms. Cecilia Sanchez Our CommunityIt is a pride to tell you that this past weekend the national team figure skating championship took place in the city of Guayaquil, Team Pichincha won the gold medal. Muchas gracias

Club de Inglés de Enriquecimiento Ciclo 2BSQ – Primary Dear BSQ Community, It was wonderful to see students (and staff!) return last week feeling refreshed after the mid-term break. Learning was back in full swing quickly with year groups across primary embarking on new projects linked to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. This is a unique approach to learning that we are pioneering at BSQ, with students already engaged in and enjoying their projects. On Friday (November 17th), we have our first Parent Teacher Conferences (PTCs) of the new academic year. In anticipation of these, you will also be receiving the Parcial 1 reports for your children (Years 1 – 6). We look forward to welcoming you to campus to discuss the start of the academic year and your child’s progress and development so far. Finally, this Saturday (November 18th), is our annual bonfire night celebration from 4 – 8pm. We look forward to celebrating with you all! I wish you a wonderful week ahead. Lewis Hutchinson Head of Primary Year 2 Even though we are only a few days into the new term, in Year 2 we have already begun work on our Project Base Learning (PBL) theme. We are learning about oceans and rivers and are linking the learning about this in Topic to our learning in Literacy, Art and some mathematics lessons. The children are really enjoying this thematic way of learning and have already contributed to our new labelled display in the classroom which depicts the journey of a river from the mountains to the sea. Below, you can also see the great variety of ocean life the children have chosen to include in the oceanic and coastal habitat. Mr. Graves BSQ – SecondaryDear Secondary School Community, I am delighted to share the success of our recent community projects trip where our KS3 students had the incredible opportunity to engage in meaningful volunteering at two local animal shelters. Witnessing our students dedicating their time and effort to support these organizations was truly heartening. Community service provides invaluable life lessons, fostering empathy, responsibility, and a sense of social awareness. These experiences go beyond the classroom, shaping our students into compassionate and responsible citizens. We are proud of their commitment to making a positive impact, and we encourage all students to continue embodying the values of community service in their everyday lives. This Thursday marks a significant milestone in our academic calendar as we host the first Parent-Teacher Conferences (PTCs) of the new academic year on November 16th. Alongside this, you will also be receiving the Parcial 1 reports for your children in years 7 to y13. We are eager to welcome you to campus for these conferences, providing a valuable opportunity to engage in discussions about the commencement of the academic year and to explore your child's progress and development thus far. Don´t forget to make your appointments with Sandy as soon as possible. On the other hand, we look forward to seeing you and celebrating the Bonfire Night, this Saturday 18th. Finally, some dates to save in your calendar,
Sending you my warmest wishes for the week ahead, Paola Montenegro Head of Secondary Year 13 Just before the holiday break Year 13 had the opportunity to dissect a lambs heart. Having the opportunities to teach lessons like this is invaluable to the students. It not only helps them learn about the internal structures of animals, but also how to use fine motor skills, team work and put into practice what they are learning theoretically from a text book. It gives them an appreciation of the complexity of an organism in a hands on environment. It is also one of the most memorable moments of their learning in Biology. They all completed the practical very well, and were able to identify the different structures of the heart. This learning will be invaluable for the mock exams in November/December.' Nadine Parker Secondary What a busy start to the year! Hopefully, everyone is back into their routine and enjoyed their break. In Living and Learning Sessions students have already looked at different learning styles and why studying is important, plus plagiarism and its consequences. We have also looked at acceptance and how we can show empathy and kindness. We are currently looking at relationships how it is normal to have an opinion different to your friends, and how to discuss this appropriately and accept these differing opinions in debate. We will soon be moving on to different types of relationships and to make sure they are positive, then celebrations around the world. Some of the topics we will be looking at in the New Year are Healthy Lifestyles, diversity, science and sustainability, mental health, Ecuadorean history and diversity. Each form will be presenting an assembly throughout the year. This gives the students a range of skills; presentation, public speaking, organisation, teamwork to name a few. Hopefully this creates a sense of ownership for the students. A HUGE well done to the year 12s and 10s who have presented already. If any parents have any specific skills that they feel would be important to share with the students in presentations please feel free to contact. Such as Mental Health, Diversity, and Relationships.... Please be reminded that we would like to ensure that we are supporting the students both as teachers and parents. We have had great success with our students collecting Botellas de Amor in partial 1. With all classes working hard to recycle loose plastic, filling bottles with crisp packets and sweet wrappers. These bottles will then be taken to create plastic bricks, with which benches, playgrounds and even houses will be built. The class that collected the most bottles in partial 1 were 7A, who will be rewarded with a pizza party on our first celebration day, Friday November the 17th. Matt Nadine Natalie Extracurricular Activities Dear Parents, We hope you are doing well. I extend my sincere apologies for the delay in disseminating this information. The school administration has been diligently formulating a comprehensive plan to ensure accessibility for the entire school community. On a positive note, I am pleased to announce that members of the Swimming Team will be exempt from activity fees, given their representation of the school in forthcoming competitions. However, it is imperative to note that a distinct charge will be applicable should you opt to utilize the bus service. Moreover, students participating in the other activities will have the chance to utilize the bus service, featuring designated routes to Cumbaya and Tumbaco. It's worth mentioning that this service will kick off on Monday, November 13th. Mr Fernado will contact you to provide you with more details. It's crucial to note that if your child uses the regular bus service, it means the arrival and departure times at the end of regular curricular lessons will remain unchanged in terms of the prices, providing you with the continued option to utilize it when you need it.
BSQ – Primary Dear BSQ community, We hope that you had a wonderful half-term break. Before the break, it was wonderful to see the students involved in the CAS events organised by Year 12 students. Thank you for your participation and subsequently raising funds for worthy causes. Whilst the coming week is quiet on the events front, next week will be much busier and as such I would like to share some reminders. On Friday November 17th, we will have our first Parent Teacher Conferences (PTCs). This will mean that children will not attend school on this day, though they are of course welcome to attend appointments with their parents. A booking form for the PTCs will be shared in the coming days. Additionally, we will also be sharing Parcial 1 reports for Years 1 to 6 before the PTCs. Finally, another reminder is that our annual Bonfire Night celebration is taking place on Saturday November 18th from 4-8pm. We look forward to this always spectacular event. I wish you a wonderful week ahead. Lewis Hutchinson Head of Primary BSQ – Secondary Dear BSQ Community, I am delighted to share with you the wonderful experience our Key Stage 3 (KS3) students had on their recent school trip to Quito's Centro Histórico. These educational outings hold immense value in enriching our students' learning experiences and broadening their horizons. This time, our students had the privilege of delving into the rich history and culture of our beautiful city. The trip to Centro Histórico provided our students with a unique opportunity to explore the historical heart of Quito, a UNESCO World Heritage site. They had the chance to immerse themselves in the captivating stories of our city, from myths and legends to the way society lived during colonial times and the early 1900s. Here are wonderful pictures from their journey of discovery: Moving ahead, congratulations to our Year 12 students for their outstanding efforts in organizing our recent school Spirit Week! This event brought our school community together in a celebration of unity, creativity, and school spirit. It's not only a fun-filled week of activities, but also a heartwarming initiative as all proceeds from these events will be used for charitable causes - Aldeas SOS and Beyond Lagartococha. Well done, Year 12, for showcasing the true spirit of giving and making a difference in our global community. On the other hand, some important dates to consider and save in your calendar:
Enjoy this week ahead. Paola Montenegro Head of Secondary Y8 In Year 8 tutor time, we've been building interpersonal relationships by focusing on concepts such as empathy, the dangers of gossiping, and roleplaying various school situations in order to problem solve. Year 8 were very involved in acting out how friendships can struggle sometimes when we don't know what's going on in our friends' personal lives. They enjoyed the school trip to the Centro Historico and finished out the half term by playing competitive trivia relating to their recent studies. It was lovely seeing all the students in their Halloween costumes during the event last Friday. They are full of school spirit and we are off to a great start in the year. Our Community Our student, Francisca from Y7, participated in the international Guayaquil Classic Gymnastics competition. In the 11 years old 4 apparatus category, she won 3 gold medals and two silver medals. 1 gold was for the Maximum accumulated (highest score) which is known as "all around". It's really wonderful that kids get excited about different sports and activities and achieve great things. Congratulations! EnrichmentDuring the Arts and Crafts Enrichment, students from KS1 made their own pots. They started working with clay and once it got dry, they colored it with acrylic paint creating beautiful designs! Bonfire NightBSQ – PrimaryDear BSQ community, Last week saw a fun week in primary with all students involved in House Events and also enjoying the ‘Dojo Dress Up Day’ on Friday. A huge well done to the Primary Student Council for their work in organising Friday’s event, we now look forward to seeing how they use the proceeds to provide primary with some excellent games for breaktimes. This week is another event-filled one as we approach the mid-term break. On Wednesday, primary are invited to wear their pyjamas to school and on Friday, all students are invited to wear a Halloween costume. Both events cost $1 each for those participating and are organised by Secondary CAS students who are raising funds for charitable causes Lagartococha and Aldeas Infantiles. Please remember that this Friday (October 27th) is the final day of Term 1 and is a 12pm finish for students. I wish you all a wonderful break and we look forward to welcoming students back to school on Monday November 6th. Lewis Hutchinson Head of Primary Reception B The Bumblebee Class have buzzed into this new school year with so much enthusiasm and excitement. Every day they gain more confidence in so many skills: their spoken English; navigating their relationships; learning more about their bodies and the world around them. Recently, they had a wonderful time at the whole school 'World Food Day'. In the week leading up to event they discussed their food likes and dislikes and had a blindfolded taste test. They tried Marmite from the UK which was not very popular! On the day, they worked together to make banana bread and followed the necessary steps. They also made fruit platters and were very excited to offer these around the school practising the phrase, "Would you like some fruit?". Learning to cut the fruit is an important part of their motor skills development and every day at lunchtime they continue practising the skill of using a knife and fork. If you see any children from Bumblebee Class around school please ask them, "Do you like _______?" in English. They should be able to answer with, "I like it." or "I don't like it.". Ms Lilly Lockwood and Miss Nicky Yepez Bumblebee Class (Reception B) BSQ – SecondaryLast week several students from y10 to y13 participated in the Model of United Nations of Colegio El Sauce, it was one their best experiences. The main goal of a model is to understand more about the United Nations, educate participants about world issues and promoting peace and the work of the United Nations through cooperation and diplomacy. As Ms. Laura Standley says: The students participated in three different committees in English; UN Women (Ana Paula Barrigon and Sofia Baquero); Human Rights Council (Maya Bonilla, Lorenzo Aguilera, Nina Brauer, Shira Yacoby, Daniel Salazar); UNICEF (Gaby Baquero, Nina Sherwood, Javiera Gutierrez, Gabriel Carrasco, Julian Davila, Juan Pablo Vaca). Students made the school proud; all 14 were active participants making regular contributions to debate highlighting their impressive research and critical thinking. Special mentions go to Shira, Lorenzo and Javiera who were noted by our hosts for high levels of participation in their committees. Overall and excellent experience for all. Our next MUN will be Eagle MUN at Intisana School in January. Moreover, y11 and y12 students had the opportunity to attend to the 7th Annual Congress of Student Vocational Orientation BYUP at Paseo San Francisco to learn more about the career offer that universities here and abroad have for them. On the other hand, Lia and Martina from y7 prepared a very interesting scavenger hunt to raise funds for the animal shelter Colitas Felices and the prize was a ticket for the soccer match Ecuador – Colombia, being the winner Cesar Bustamante from y11. And to close the week we had an amazing house competition to capture the flag. Next week, Wednesday 25th y7, y8 and y9 students have their first cultural trip to Centro Histórico and they will visit traditional places, as well as museums to learn more about the history and traditions of Ecuador. Read your emails and then send the permission slip, if you haven't done so. Y12 students we will also host Spirit week, Ms. Cecilia Sanchez CAS and Community Projects coordinator has shared below some important information. Finally, please remember that this Friday October 27th school finishes at 12pm as it is the end of Term 1, and the start of our holiday break, we return Monday Nov 6th. Have a lovely week ahead! Paola Montenegro Head of Secondary 7A 7A have been working hard recently at school. In tutor time we have been looking at plagiarism, bullying and empathy. The students have had some excellent discussions and shown themselves to be thoughtful and caring young people. They have also had the chance to show off some of their acting skills to varying degrees of success. On a more personal note, in science they produced some wonderful model cells which are going to be displayed in all of the science classrooms. I would like to thank all of the year 7 parents for their support in this and all of the important homework that year 7 have to do. Best Regards, Stephen Armstrong Spirit Week
Extracurricular Activities Dear parents, We would like to express our gratitude for your participation in the pre-registration for ECA. https://forms.office.com/e/x2LTc3TP4R Your input has proven invaluable in helping us gather crucial information, such as the demand for activities and transportation. However, we regret to inform you that some activities have not reached the minimum required number of students to proceed. Specifically, Yoga and Ceramic on Tuesdays and Thursdays, as well as Música, CrossFit, and Kaoba Handicrafts on Mondays and Wednesdays did not meet the required threshold. Additionally, in response to the high demand for KIRU wood colouring, the days for this activity will be changed from Monday and Wednesday to Tuesday and Thursday. We kindly request that you complete the final registration for extracurricular activities by this Friday, the 20th, by filling out the provided form. Please keep in mind that the ECA will kick off on Monday, October 23rd. PAWe are happy to announce the new PA comite: Kathy Becdach Solorzano -President María Paulina Romo - Vicepresident Maria Luisa Casali - Treasure Daniela Cruz - Secretary. Don´t forget that we have our Bonfire Night coming very soon on Saturday the 18th of November. More information soon. Deberían poder responder "Me gusta". o "No me gusta".
BSQ – Primary Dear BSQ Community, Last week saw a positive week in primary, with staff and students alike somewhat reinvigorated by the long weekend. This week sees a number of events happening, beginning today with our World Food Day celebration. Students across the school will be learning about the relationship between water and food and will also be following some delicious, low water recipes to create tasty treats for the afternoon. A huge thanks to Mrs. Nicola Woollard and Ms. Paula Valencia for their work in coordinating the day. Additionally, this week is also a House Event week meaning that Years 3 – 6 will have House on Thursday (October 19th) and Reception – Year 2 will have House on Friday (October 20th). Lastly, our new Primary Student Council have planned a non-uniform day on Friday (October 20th) when students can come to school dressed as their Class Dojo character (all characters are shown on the invitation sent by Mrs. Woollard). They may wish to accessorise as their character or can simply wear the colour of their character. If students wish to participate, the fee is $2, and all proceeds will support the Student Council’s breaktime games initiative. This event is not to be confused with our annual Halloween parade which will take place next week (more details to follow). I wish you a wonderful week ahead. Lewis Hutchinson Head of Primary BSQ – Secondary Dear BSQ Community, Another active and amazing week in secondary school, as you may know during lunchtime, we are having a soccer tournament across all year groups, this tournament is not just about competition but also about instilling essential life values. Fair play, teamwork, and sportsmanship are at the core of this event. By participating, our students learn the importance of treating others with respect, working together to achieve common goals, and understanding that victory is not just about the score but also about playing with integrity. Through these experiences, they build character, discipline, and social skills that will benefit them on and off the field. We will keep you posted about other sport competitions that we will hold during the academic year. As Mr. Hutchinson mentioned this Monday, we are hosting again the World Food Day Celebration and Ms. Sawyers has prepared a very interesting agenda for secondary: Additionally, this week year 12 students will start working on their Extended Essays. The Extended Essay is a significant component of the IB diploma, where students independently research and write a 4,000-word essay on a topic of their choice. It encourages in-depth research, academic writing skills, and exploration of personal passion. The EE not only prepares them for university-level research but also allows them to showcase their expertise in a specific area. It's an excellent way for students to set themselves apart academically and explore their academic interests in depth. Finally, Mr. Bowles kindly wants to introduce and inform us about the activities of the secondary student council. Have a superb week ahead!
Paola Montenegro Head of Secondary BSQ – Primary Dear BSQ Community, Last week marked a productive week in school with the visit of Mr. Jonathan Dey (Orbital Regional Head of Schools), allowing us to clarify our priorities for this academic year. Many of you had the opportunity to speak with him during his visit and if you would like to do so online, please contact Ms. Sandy Pazmiño to arrange an appointment. Coming up on October 16th, we will be celebrating World Food Day with a day of activities for students around their ‘water footprint’ and the impact on food. A huge thanks to Mrs. Nicola Woollard and Ms. Paula Valencia for their work in preparation of this. Please do not forget to contact your child’s class teacher if you wish to purchase a basket of fruits and vegetables from the indigenous farmers who will also be visiting on this day. The deadline for reserving a basket is October 11th. Finally, I hope that you all enjoyed the long weekend with your families. I wish you a wonderful week ahead. Lewis Hutchinson Head of Primary BSQ – Secondary Dear BSQ community. This time, I would like to address you regarding the importance of attendance and punctuality. Those are essential for students as they help them to plan, make efficient routines, and be prepared for their tasks. Good attendance and punctuality ensure that students don’t miss any part of the lesson and succeed in their studies. As we are working towards the grades for the first partial, it is crucial that students attend classes regularly and on time. This will help them stay up to date with the course material and be better prepared for assessments. Moving ahead, I would also like to invite the school community to participate in World Food Day on October 16th. World Food Day is an international day celebrated every year worldwide to raise awareness about food supply and distribution issues around the world. This year’s theme is “Water is life, water is food. Leave no one behind”. The day aims to promote worldwide awareness and action for those who suffer from hunger and for the need to ensure healthy diets for all, leaving no one behind. We will have all-day activities and workshops prepared by the sustainability committee, year 12 and 13 ESS, Geography students, and Ms. Natalie Sawyers. More information is below. We will be holding special activities throughout the day for the students, plus some students will also be presenting to younger years. The theme for this year is "Water is Life, Water is Food"."Kawsay Katuwasi" will be joining us, a group of local female farmers, who work in small-scale farms. They will be selling baskets of fresh fruit and vegetables for $5. Please pre-order your basket via email/ through your child's tutor. These baskets will be sent home with your child for you to enjoy in your home. You will also be supporting the locals. Good food for you and good for the community. Finally, just to heads up in the coming weeks KS3 students will have their first cultural trip to Quito a tradition that returns after 3 years, more information will be shared by the Spanish and Sociales departments. I hope you have a nice start to the week. Paola Montenegro Head of Secondary Extracurricular ActivitiesThis week we had the Terravalle Club Fencing School on the school campus, they held a demonstration and also allowed some students to participate in it. Many are excited to be able to have this activity as an extracurricular activity. No dejar a nadie atrás”.
