Thought for the week; June 5th World Environment Day “The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it.” Robert Swan As we return from our extended weekend break and enter the month of June let’s look ahead and start thinking about the future. For our Year 13’s, they start their ‘Futures Curriculum’ this week as they start looking and planning for their lives beyond BSQ. Year 6 is preparing for transition week when they look to life and learning in secondary school, and of course, at all other levels within the school, plans are underway for ending one year and preparing for another. Our sustainability teams are working on plans for a sustainability leaders panel symposium later this month, and of course, next Monday is World Environment Day. So, time to think ahead, what will you do as a family next weekend to contribute to the sustainability of our planet? Send us your photos and let’s see if we can have a gallery of activities for next Monday. Have a great week everyone. David Jones Principal Dates for Your Diary May 29th: Futures Curriculum – Year 13 June 5th: World Environment Day – send us your photos of family action and initiative June 8th: Primary Sports Day June 12th: Transition Week - Year 6 June 21-23: Huasquila Lodge - Year 6 Residential June 28th: Transition assembly and end of primary party - Year 6 June 29th: Annual Awards Ceremonies June 30th: Graduation Ceremony – Year 13 David Jones Principal BSQ – Primary Dear BSQ community, I hope that you enjoyed a wonderful, long weekend. This week sees us enter the month of June, a month that is always very busy in international schools around the world. This month sees all of primary involved in sports day on June 8th and the Year 6 students complete transition week (week commencing June 12th), preparing them for life in the secondary school. They will also head to Hasquila Lodge near Tena for their residential (21st – 23rd June) and finally will perform their end of primary assembly on June 28th. A busy time for Year 6 indeed! On June 29th ,we will host our annual awards day, beginning with Early Years ceremony, followed by the Primary ceremony and finally the Secondary ceremony. On this day, a host of awards will be given out to students for showing the school values and for their achievement in different curriculum subjects. More details will follow with regards to timings in the coming weeks. As we approach the end of the year, we are also working on classes for next academic year and are finalising the teachers and assistant teachers for each year group. This information will be shared in the coming weeks, before the end of the academic year. I hope that this information keeps you up to date with the busy month ahead as we approach the summer break. This time is always one filled with fun and enjoyment, we are looking forward to seeing how the next weeks unfold. I wish you a wonderful week ahead. Lewis Hutchinson Head of Primary Reception B Term 3 started a few weeks ago, but we are still feeling the excitement around the Reception classes. The kids had a great time talking, reading, and learning about Dinosaurs. In Art class the children enjoyed applying the collage technique to make their own Dino Masks. After, we displayed all the work in our new “Wall of Pride” for Early Years, where our little artists can show their creativity and skills. We are also very excited with the opening of Mini City which has contributed to the learning and practicing of English functional language amongst all EFYS students. Children can dress up as their favorite real-world character and role play as doctors, pilots, restaurant costumers, and many others. In mid-May, the reception classes invited mums and dads for a Mother's Day celebration. The children were very happy learning a lovely poem and preparing their crafts for mum. We continued with the Mythical Creatures theme, where boys and girls found an opportunity to make clear differentiation between real creatures and imaginary ones. In Literacy, Jack and the Beanstalk created a great opportunity for collaborative work to put together our class display on the theme. During Continuous Provision, the children were very excited looking at their own bean seeds sprout and grow to finally plant them into containers. Now, we are moving into the world of pirates looking for more learning adventures! In PSED (Personal Social Emotional Development) this term, we are focusing on three values: Be Kind, Be Safe and Be Responsible. We also started the Final House Race – Challenge to support the class values. Finally, we gladly received Miss Lizzy who is contributing significantly to the English teaching and practice as our EAL Specialist. Ms. Balseca BSQ – Secondary 26 May 2023 A very short week and unusually quiet with three year groups out of school. We will be back to full strength again next week with Year 11 enjoying an extended essay and theory of knowledge experience to give them a head start into studies next year at IB. Year 8 will be back from their trip to Puerto Lopez which I understand from Sophie Davilla was a huge success. She reported that it was one of the best experiences she has had to date. I am really pleased to hear about all of the positive experiences and enthusiasm from the students who have made the effort to take part in all of the residential events this year. The intention last year when we were designing the programme was to provide our students with an educational adventure themes on sustainability experiences that would provide life long memories. Holidays these are not. Everyone who takes part experiences leadership and difficulty in a setting that only Ecuador can offer. The 7 events we have delivered over the secondary journey allow our students to explore all of the diverse environments that the country offers. These experiences really are world class, the envy of schools in Europe with only the elite experiencing what Latin America can offer with the costs of getting here. To be able to do this on our doorstep is a fantastic opportunity and one that all should embrace. You will be pleased to hear that we are now securing dates for the coming year and Mr Tabango and Mr Jones will be meeting with the providers at Camps and CEIBO to reflect on the year gone and how we can enhance things further into the future. I hope that all students are working hard revising at home in addition to the activity in school with exams this week and next. The timetables are detailed in the last newsletter along with the links to revision advice. Please do encourage your son or daughter to put some time into this in the evening and ask to see the timetable and what activities they are doing to prepare. I wish them all the very best of luck. The end of year is fast looming being only4 weeks away! Where has the year gone? Our attention is starting to turn to celebrations and specifically the awards ceremony on the 29th June and the Graduation on the 30th. It is an exciting time of year allowing us to celebrate and give credit to those who have achieved so much academically and in many other ways. I am looking forward to giving thanks to our heads of school who have served student voice so successfully this year and to give them the opportunity to present the appointments to the next cohort taking over. We also have 2 COBIS Awards this year. These were a result of nominations from the school and we are very excited to have been awarded the certificates to two very deserving students. These will be presented at the award ceremony on the 29th. I am also looking forward to seeing the Duke of Edinburgh International Awards being presented to those students who have completed their awards this year. This is a huge commitment and something that could see them attending the Palace in London with the Duke of Edinburgh himself if they get to the Gold Level. Mrs Davilla is really excite to be setting off a few students on the Gold Award who achieved Silver this year. This is a first at BSQ and is testament to the hard work and leadership of the team at the school. Well done all! Lee Moors Head of Secondary Field Trip From the 9th-11th May all of Year 12 travelled to Mindo to complete some very important field work for their IB studies. For the Science students, they were involved in working collaboratively to collect data for their group 4 project. They have some very egxciting research questions, such as how does light intensity affect the type of chlorophyll in plants. We are really looking forward to them presenting this information on the 16th June. Biologists were involved in collecting data along a transect to see how succession takes place from the rivers edge out into the grassland. They also had the opportunity to take samples from the river and measure the biotic index to see how pollution can affect the biodiversity of invertebrates. The opportunity for them to complete field work is invaluable for the Biology IB exam. They learned essential data analysis skills, as well as how to sample an ecosystem accurately. Geographers undertook data collection for their Internal Assessments, worth between 20-25% of their final grade. They measured different aspects of the river, based on the Bradshaw model, how the river changes along its course. Looking at the width, depth, gradient, velocity, bedload size and shape. They appreciated the help from their peers in collecting the data and had a fantastic time whilst doing it. Mrs. Parker and Miss. Sawyers Duke of Edinburgh This week our Bronze Duke of Edinburgh students presented their final purpose projects to an audience of special guests. Group 2 started us off with a Kardashian's style video diary which had us all laughing. This was a fantastically editors' video with fun moment along with real life emotions along their journey. Group 1 then started off with the presentation of a t-shirt designed by them and covered in beautiful images of the flora found in Pululahua. The group also spent a lot of time designing and creating a board game with the information they learnt about the plants. The level of serial in this game was outstanding. You needed different elements to get your plants down on the board and special bee cards were drawn to protect the plants. Finally, group 3 presented a climate related project which focuses on the effects of climate within the crater. For instance, dry conditions resulted in cracking ground. Cloud formations in the afternoon were a result of the moisture from the forest lower down the valley and the strong winds which occurred at night just add to the unexpected climate variations. We were exceptionally impressed with the team effort made and celebrated with some tea, coffee and cake for the students. A huge congratulations to our Bronze 2023 group! Now to finish their hours!! Ms. Dávila Extracurricular Activities First and foremost, I would like to commend all our students for their dedication and hard work. Each day, we witness remarkable growth and improvement in their abilities, which is a testament to their commitment and enthusiasm. In our Karate program, our students are on the verge of reaching an important milestone as they prepare for the highly anticipated belt colour-changing ceremony. The art side of the extracurricular activities: KIRU, Drawing & Coloring, Arts & Crafts, and Pottery classes have been enhancing our students' fine and gross motor skills. In our Football and CrossFit programs, students are not only enjoying themselves but also reaping the benefits of an active lifestyle. ¡Muchas felicidades a nuestro grupo Bronce 2023!
Mr. Oscar Tabango

Thought for the week; “Everyone wants to live on top of the mountain, but all the happiness and growth occurs while you’re climbing it.” Andy Rooney Saturday was an amazing day! It was so good to see everyone together enjoying themselves, eating and dancing to their heart’s content. Thank you everyone who participated in making the day such a great success and of course, a special thank you to the PA for their coordination and support. It was also great to finally inaugurate our pool! We are now officially open for business as they say, and shortly we will be sending out guidelines for the start of swimming classes. Finally, this week is International Safeguarding Week, and as a school we will be taking a special look at how we keep safe and secure in different environments. Please remember that this is a slightly shorter week and that there are no classes this Friday. We hope that you all enjoy the long weekend. Have a great week everyone! David Jones Principal Dates for Your Diary Wednesday, 24th May – 8.00 am: Open Forum in the Gym – New initiatives and staffing Friday, 25th May: No classes – Commemoration of ‘La Batalla de Pichincha’ David Jones Principal BSQ – Primary Dear BSQ community, It was wonderful to see so many of you at the Family Fun Day event on Saturday, the first event of this nature for a number of years. I hope that you enjoyed the food, drinks and were fortunate enough to be a lucky prize winner! Last Friday, Year 1 represented BSQ at the Intercultural World Cup held at Colegio Einstein. This was a fantastic opportunity to fly the flag for BSQ and show just how wonderful our students are. The students competed in a number of events and had a wonderful time. This week is Safeguarding Awareness Week. During some lessons, we will be discussing how to keep ourselves safe and who to speak to if we feel unsafe. It is vitally important that children are aware of their ´trusted adults´ whom they can speak to if they are worried, threatened or feel unsafe. Finally, on Thursday Years 3 to 6 will be enjoying an Ecuadorean folk tales performance being performed by an outside theatre company. We are looking forward to the play which ties together learning of traditional tales in sociales alongside the performance work being done in drama. It should be great fun! I wish you a wonderful week ahead. Lewis Hutchinson Head of Primary BSQ – Secondary 19 May 2023 Well done year 13 and Year 11. You have made it to the finishing line. Year 13 Exams are now done and year 11 only have 3 multiple choice science exams to come. Everyone has worked incredibly hard and have embraced the opportunity to prepare for and test their academic subject knowledge. We are all now eagerly looking forward to results which are available for year 13 on the 6th July and year 11 on the 15 August. Year 13 are now looking forward to a special curriculum that is designed to prepare them for next steps. There will be activities such as shopping on a budget, self-defence, financial planning, healthy lifestyles, and may other topics which are designed to ensure that they are best prepared for university and adult life. At the end of the futures programme it is rumoured that there will be a protest (that is traditional) and resulting withdrawal of labour, and a trip to the beach. The end of year activities all culminate in the leavers assembly and their graduation on the 30th June. Once year 11 have completed exams they will start thinking about year 12 and preparing for the IB curriculum they will be following next year. We have three special events planned for them that cover the core IBDP subjects being the Theory of Knowledge (TOK), the Extended Essay (EE), and the Community Action Service (CAS) elements of the Diploma programme. These are excellent opportunities to fully understand the implications of these important elements and makes a start on the work. Year 11 will be expected to work on set tasks in their IB subjects as preparation over the summer break. They will also enjoy their residential event in the Galapagos which is followed by a week of work experience. This is an opportunity for them to consider the demands of work as an adult and the commitments and responsibilities that come with this. Part of the programme involves some personal reflection and a summary report on the activity. In my view this is hugely informative and rewarding for the students involved and this is recognised globally with the vast majority of students at this age gaining from the experience. A number of decades ago (?) I myself did work experience with a painter and decorator as a 15-year-old. I still remember the enjoyment I had of learning new skills and finally being given responsibility and accountability for what I did. I still have the skills now and I have used them many times over the years. Exams for all other students in Secondary begin next week so tutor time on Friday was a focus on revision and preparation. Please ensure that you have seen the timetables that have been sent out by Ms Standley so that you can assist in motivating your son or daughter with revision at the right time. Exam schedule: Internal exam timetable 2023.xlsx Year 8 are now safely at their residential events with Camps International in Puerto Lopez. Please look out for the updates on the WhatsApp group with their experiences and photos of the fun and educational experiences that the children are enjoying. Finally, my thanks go to you as parents for the support you gave on the parent teacher conference event on Wednesday. There was a huge turnout and all staff were busy with meetings on the day. Please ensure that actions agreed form the discussions are followed up on. These really are important educational strategies that are very powerful when the student, you as parents, and the subject teacher are discussing performance together at the same table. It was lovely to see everyone having such an excellent day on Saturday at the fun day. I was particularly impressed by the range of cakes on offer – I did find myself at the cake stall more times than I perhaps should have. Thank you very much to our hard working Maintenance, Catering, Cleaning and Administrative team for their preparations in making the venue look so amazing, and also to our wonderfully supportive and hard working parents on the PTA who made it all possible. Great job. Well done all! Lewis Hutchinson Head of Primary BSQ – Secundaria19 mayo 2023
Bien hecho Year 13 y Year 11. Gran trabajo. ¡Bien hecho todos! Lee Moors Head of Secondary Thought for the week; “It is not how much we have, but how much we enjoy, that makes happiness.” Charles Spurgeon We are excitedly looking forward to welcoming you to this year’s Family Fun Day this coming Saturday the 20th of May. The event promises to be packed full of activities and we will have our traditional Family Fun Day raffle, which this year features a Royal Enfield motorcycle as the star prize! We will also be formally inaugurating our new swimming pool and you will have the chance to visit and visually enjoy this much-awaited complement to our campus facilities. This is a great opportunity for us to come together and celebrate as a community and we hope to see as many of you as possible at school on Saturday. Have a great week! David Jones Principal Dates for Your Diary Saturday 20th: Family Fun Day: 10:30 am – 3.00 pm David Jones Principal BSQ – Primary Dear BSQ Community, Last week, Year 4 enjoyed a wonderful trip to the Museo Numismatico, learning about money over time and sharpening their mathematical skills. Next week, Year 1 also have an exciting trip as they are representing BSQ at an intercultural celebration day at Colegio Einstein. We know that they will represent BSQ and Great Britain brilliantly! We look forward to welcoming you at the upcoming Family Fun Day on Saturday. We are all excited for the fun and games and delicious food on offer. I wish you a wonderful week ahead. Lewis Hutchinson Head of Primary Nursery Dear families, We have had an exciting start to Term 3 in Nursery! So far this term, we have been expanding our learning of Planet Earth to look at different environments and are currently, working on building volcanos that we are very excited to eventually experiment with so to cause them to erupt! For ‘World Book Day’ we designed our classroom window with some very pretty dinosaurs that took into account the theme of that day. If you look closely, there are some beautiful dinosaurs on display. You will see one with very pretty hair and some others with very smiley faces. Additionally, we have also had lots of fun with our new EAL (English as an Additional Language) teacher, Ms. Lizzie. As an introductory lesson, Ms. Lizzie, focused on English language that our young learners know very well i.e. colours, saying their name, what they like/don’t like and combined this with songs and games – which I can only presume went well, since our Nursery students are now asking when Ms. Lizzie will be coming back to our class again! Subsequently, Ms. Lizzie will join us every Monday to help support further our students English language skills, promoting further each child’s capacity to listen, understand, and speak in English. During her lesson, it was a joy to observe our Caterpillars growing self-confidence to speak English – there was certainly a proud energy radiating through the room once her lesson was over 😊 Ms. Coiro BSQ – Secondary12 May 2023 This has been a fairly uneventful week apart from the ongoing exams for year 11 and 13. Year 12 Geographers and Biologists did however go off to Mindo for research work connected with both IB subjects. They had a very successful time in the river and doing other experiments. I understand form the staff that it was a huge success, especially notable after the near monsoon conditions on one day which meant that the river was much higher than normal. The insects there seem to have been well fed with most participant arriving at school on Friday scratching all of the bites. A reminder that we have parent teacher conferences on Wednesday for Years 7. 8, 9, 10, and 12. There will not be any lessons at school or attendance required to allow teachers time to fulfil their appointments. Please ensure that you have requested appointments with Sandy on reception and she will arrange accordingly. Year 13 are in as normal on the day as there is a Spanish Exam in the morning and a Biology Exam in the afternoon. Year 11 can stay at home as there is no exam for them [email protected] Please remember that the Family Fun Day is on Saturday 2oth May 2023. All students have been issued with the books of raffle tickets to sell for the draw on the day. Any unsold tickets can be returned to form tutors. Year 8 look forward to their residential to Puerto Lopez on the 22nd May. Parents please look out for the information that has been sent so that everyone is prepared. It is only a fortnight until the end of year exams start. All students will be sitting them this year in the Secondary School. We have tests for some subjects being set by the MoE at this time and all students in years 7.9 will be sitting internal progress tests for English, Math, and Science. Reports and grades are being prepared for the end of the year. Years 11 and 13 will have grades submitted in line with IG and IB final predictions for attainment. All other years will have grades added in line with the end of year exam outcomes. It is important therefore for everyone to prepare accordingly and consider revision for the timetabled exams. Good luck all. Have a great week everyone Lee Moors Head of Secondary Year 7 These last few months have been full and filled with a variety of activities and events for Year 7. As we work our way towards the end of the school year, we will be continuing to target independence, responsibility and taking initiative to support students with their continued transition to Secondary School. Some recent highlights from our last few months are shared below in a short series of photos including: · Countries Fair with Year 7 representing Kenya and Spain including foods, dances and culture · Science using physics and our learning of forces to design and test parachutes · International Book Day dress up and celebration of our favorite books and of course a Harry Potter themed Quidditch game! · Learning about changes of phases of matter In addition to end of the year activities and events coming up, students will soon be taking a series of more formal assessments for their classes as we wrap up the second semester. We ask that you please support them by asking about study plans as well as reminding them to get sleep and study for the exams for their classes. These assessments will focus on introducing our students to a more formal setting for assessments to support them in the future at BSQ Mr. Brett Our Community Two BSQ students reached the podium at the Squash Tournament in Club Arrayanes. Emiliano Y7 won gold medal in Youth Category B, and Luciano Y5 silver medal in Youth Category B. Their focus and discipline show at each match, we cannot be prouder! Family Fun DayThought for the week; “A mother is your first friend, your best friend, your forever friend.” Unknown We wish all our BSQ mums all the very best for this coming Mother’s Day and hope that you have a wonderful weekend in the company of those nearest and dearest to you. In fact, this appears to be a key time for celebrations. This past weekend saw the coronation of King Charles III, with street parties and celebrations across the UK and the British Commonwealth, and we send our congratulations to His Majesty the King and all members of the British Community. This coming weekend is of course for our mums, and in the meantime, we are busy preparing with the Parents’ Association for the forthcoming Family Fun Day on Saturday, 20th, when we will also be inaugurating our reconstructed swimming pool. All in all, a great deal to look forward to. You will see from the sectional news reports below that we also have a great deal going on in both primary and secondary schools, so we wish you all yet another busy, productive and successful week at BSQ. David Jones Principal Dates for Your Diary Saturday, 20th May: Family Fund Day and Pool Inauguration David Jones Principal BSQ – Primary Dear BSQ Community, Last week saw a week of brilliant sunshine and brilliant learning. Let´s hope that this week follows the same pattern! I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Ms. Lizzie Unsworth to our team. Ms. Unsworth will be supporting language development in Early Years for the remainder of the term to help our Reception students to become Year 1 ready. On Thursday, Year 4 will be enjoying a trip to the Museo Numismático. We are sure that they will have a great time learning about money, supporting their mathematical skills. Several other trips are also in the works for before the summer break - more information to come soon. We are beginning to make plans for the end of the school year. Plans are taking shape for a Year 6 transition week. This is where Year 6 students spend some time in secondary, preparing them for the move to the secondary school. We will also be inviting Year 6 parents into school to speak with the secondary teachers and leadership team. Additionally, we are formulating plans for the Year 6 assembly and the Primary and Early Years awards events. More information to come in the following days and weeks. I wish you a wonderful week ahead. Lewis Hutchinson Head of Primary Year 6B It's hard to believe that we are already in the final term of this year. As we get closer to the summer, Year 6 have started to think about their transition to secondary and all the exciting changes that are ahead for them. Soon we will be using the idea of transition to create poetry and art that will celebrate them as individuals as they start making these steps. We also have our residential trip to Tena to look forward to which will be a great way to begin our end of year celebrations. This term we have continued some of the themes from our successful theme week. We started our reusable canvas bag designs and are using our literacy lessons to perfect the art of persuasive writing with letters we hope to send to Supermaxi. We have created claims and looked for evidence to create arguments we believe will help Supermaxi make changes to how they use single-use plastics. Our bag designs are being prototyped. Here is a selection of our bags that will soon be available to purchase! Mr. McNeil Dear Parents, At BSQ we believe that children should have a healthy, balanced snack at break time. In fact, our policy states that children should not bring candies into school. Please ensure your child, if they bring a snack from home, has something that is healthy and balanced, this helps children avoid the sugar rush, which in turn, enables them to learn as best as they can. Biscuits are fine occasionally, but they have a high sugar content and should not be consumed often. Here are some ideas... Pieces of fruit and vegetables Yogurt (however, be aware, these can have a high sugar content) Popcorn Pita pocket with vegetables or houmous Dried fruit Chickpeas Crackers and cheese Thank you for your cooperation. BSQ – Secondary 5 May 2023 It has been a very quiet week as Year 11 and 13 finally engage in a full week of exams. There are some highlights and for me such as witnessing year 11 sit a 2.30-hour Maths exam in the morning and a Chemistry exam in the afternoon which made me very proud. They all took this in their stride and at the end they were exhausted. This is a test that is not only academic. Also well done to our year 13 Business entrepreneurs who sacrificed the Holiday on Monday meeting me and Miss Sanchez for their second exam. Again cheery faces and a stoic approach to the challenge of the day. Well done. What has really resonated with me is the mental capacity of them all. This is usually a time of great stress and on occasions tears. They are in fact in control, organised, cheerful and embracing the challenge. To take the motto from the extremely well respected Royal Marines in the UK - being ‘Cheerful in adversity’, they all deserve Green Berets! This week has also seen our younger students taking part in the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s award qualifying expedition. This is also an arduous challenge and especially in the heat and searing sun that they had to contend with on Thursday and Friday. All took part with enthusiasm and determination. Our thanks must go to Mrs Davilla, Ms Sawyers, and Mr Brett for their leadership. These are big commitments for the staff to make and it is appreciated by all. Next week a number of students are taking the opportunity to travel with the science team on an ecology expedition in Mindo. This s part of the science IB curriculum and is a very exciting addition to our educational experiences at BSQ. This is a world class opportunity that is on our door step. I hope that they all enjoy exploring the jungle and river in what has been a favourite location for the Moors family whilst we have been here in Ecuador. Well done again to Mrs Parker, Ms Sawyers, and Mr Tabango for their hard work and planning. We all look forward to a report and some photographs in due course. On the 17th May we will be holding our last parent teacher conference day of the year. The timetable will be collapsed and students will be doing activities at home on that day. Teachers of Years 7, 8, 9, 10, and 12 will be hosting meetings from 8.00am to 4.00 pm. Please ensure you book in with Sandy in good time to arrange your appointments so you are not disappointed. The deadline for this is 3pm on the 15th May. We are now preparing he exams for the end of the academic year. The exam weeks are the 29th May to the 9th June. These are important exams for all. Year 12 will sit a formal mock exam for IB which is very important to them as the outcomes will inform predicted grades to support initial university applications in November and December. Years 7-10 will all sit written exams in each subject. This is the first time we have done this following the COVID pandemic mitigations, so everyone should prepare and work hard. Ms Standley will be sharing the timetables very soon, which have been planned carefully so that exams are spread out suitably. The outcomes of these exams will be the grades reported for Quimestre 2. You will also remember my comments about the PISA tests for year 7 last week. These will be the tests in these subjects for year 7. We will not be making them sit a double examination. Finally, my thoughts turn the celebrations in the UK over the weekend where UK citizens and member countries of the Commonwealth celebrated the coronation of King Charles III. This was a huge occasion with much pomp and ceremony which has been formed over many centuries of history. I hope you had the opportunity to witness some of this and that you all join me in congratulating King Charles and Queen Camilla and this historical moment for the UK on behalf of us all at BSQ. ‘God Save the King!’ Lee Moors Head of Secondary Our CommunityMother's Day Champions Victor Hugo and Victoria participated in the "Top Tennis" tournament, mother and son doubles modality, from which they were champions. An excellent activity to celebrate mom. Congratulations! Lizzie Unsworth a nuestro equipo.
¡Felicidades! Thought for the week; "The only difference between try and triumph is a little umph." Anonymous Some exciting news for this week - we are very pleased to announce that our new swimming pool is close to completion and students have been taking a sneak preview prior to the official opening. We expect to resume our swimming classes within the next couple of weeks and the official opening ceremony will take place on Family Fun Day on Saturday the 20th of May. We are sure you will be delighted with the outcome. This week I am attending the Orbital Schools annual conference in the UK, proudly reporting on our new BSQ initiatives and collaboratively planning with principals from our sister schools around the world. Throughout the week Mr. Lewis Hutchinson and Mr. Lee Moors will attend to any matters arising and will keep me informed of developments. We all hope you have a wonderful week. David Jones Principal Dates for Your Diary Monday, 1st May: NO CLASSES – National Holiday David Jones Principal BSQ – Primary Dear BSQ Community, Last week saw a great week for primary with Careers Day taking place on Tuesday. Students had the opportunity to consider the career paths that they might like to explore in the future, as well as hearing from a range of professionals about their chosen careers. Year 5 enjoyed their trip to Jardin Alado and asked some wonderful questions of the keepers to support them in their persuasive writing task of ´Should we keep animals in captivity? ´ Perhaps this is a conversation you could have at home too! I wish you a wonderful week ahead. Lewis Hutchinson Head of Primary 6A 'What influences great artists?' is the theme for this term's topic across the Primary school. We started this conversation last week, and the students brought up fantastic learning from previous years. They mentioned the following influences upon artists: emotions, relatives and their relationships, accidents/misfortunes, natire, animals, shapes, painters, writers, artists, history, and important dates. Since we have been learning about Salvador Dali, they have also discovered other influences upon artists: religion, hatred of styles of art, dreams, and sleep. This week we were using our sculpting abilities from last term to create items in the style of 'realism'. We then discussed how we could represent the same items but in a 'surreal' manner. The photos you can see represent this. Fantastic learning so far, Year Six. Keep up the fantastic work! Mr. Prosser BSQ – Secondary 28th April 2023 A good start! Finally, external examinations have started in the Secondary school. Year 11 have sat Spanish Exams and our artists sat an 8-hour marathon with their externally moderated showpiece. Year 13 started on Friday with part 1 of Business Management and the poor things had to come on Monday morning to part 2. Thank you to Miss Sanchez for giving up her holiday morning with me to facilitate the exam. Well done to all for coping so well with the early nerves and it is clear that they are all preparing well and taking this so seriously. The Ministry of Education have announced that year 7 at BSQ will be sitting tests in Spanish language for Spanish, Sociales, Mathematics and Science. We have been selected randomly as an International School in Ecuador. The results of these for the school will be published for all to see. The tests are planned for the end of May and we are reviewing the curriculum that will be tested in the subject areas so that our students have every opportunity of success. We should be fairly well aligned though as these are PISA tests (Programme for international student assessment) set by the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. As we follow the British National curriculum our coverage is wide and in depth. PISA tests are done every three years. Ecuador has not appeared in the ranking as a participating country until now. China is consistently at the top of the Ranking and the UK is consistently around the top 10. The highest ranked country in Latin America in the last assessment (2021) was Chile 46th out of 77, then Uruguay 52nd, and 3rd was Mexico at 56th. Other Latin American participating PISA countries are Panama, Peru, Brazil, and Argentina who were all in the remaining places. If you want more information on PISA testing and International Assessment comparisons, you can find this on the following link: https://www.oecd.org/pisa/ As the tests fall in our Q2 exam season we will be using the outcomes of these test for our internal assessments. This is so that students do not have to sit more than one exam in these subjects. I wonder how Ecuador will fare in the outcomes. We all look forward to a couple of long weekends in May and the coming family fun day. Please remember that this has changed from the 13th to the 20th May. A reminder for those students and parents involved with study leave. Students must be in school 30 minutes before the scheduled start of an exam. They must be in full school uniform and have their ID card with them. Travelling to and from school is the responsibility of parents if this is during the school day. A reminder also that we are very happy to have students in school if they would prefer to study here. Normal transport and rules apply in this case. Lee Moors Head of Secondary EnrichmentEnrichment activities cycle 3 We are on the last cycle of Enrichment; the first two cycles had been positive and enriching our students from primary and secondary, from documentary, football, chess, cross stitch, mandalas, netball until gardening, video games, volleyball, mural painting, guitar lessons and so on, every single activity has been a success. A massive range of activities have been carried out by our outstanding teachers and year 12 students. Students are always engaged and focused on the different activities that will help them learn new skills or just a quick relaxation from the curricular activities they have daily.
Saludos Sr. Oscar Tabango Coordinador de enriquecimiento Thought for the week; “Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.” Aristotle Aside from the numerous trips and academic activity that you will read about in our Primary and Secondary news sections, we ended our first week on a high note with celebrations for World Book Day and Teacher’s Day. It was great to see so many students and staff joining in with the spirit of these events. This week we continue in a similar vein. Orbital’s annual conference returns this year with both online and presential conference components and we are proud to report that BSQ is taking a leading role in this event. This will mean that I will be off campus during the first week of May. All urgent academic matters will be dealt with by our respective Heads of School, Mr. Lewis Hutchinson and Mr. Lee Moors, who will be in contact with me should the need arise. Have an excellent week everyone. David Jones Principal Dates for Your Diary Monday, 1st May: NO CLASSES – National Holiday David Jones Principal BSQ – Primary Dear BSQ Community, Last week saw a wonderful return to school after the break. Learning was quickly back in full swing and as always, the students were back in the school routine well. Last Friday saw the superb ´World Book Day´ celebration. The costumes were truly fantastic, and the children had a wonderful time engaging with reading, listening to authors discuss their craft, parading in their costumes, and searching the campus for clues about famous books. Last week also saw a trip for students involved in the World Food Programme recipe book project. Students headed to the supermarket to procure the items for their recipes whilst also examining nutritional values carefully. We cannot wait to see the finished recipe book! On Tuesday, children from Years 1 to 6 will be enjoying ´Careers Day. ´ On this day, a range of professionals from different areas will present to the children to hopefully inspire them to consider their future vocations. We have a huge range of professions being discussed from surgeons to volcanologists, microbiologists to firefighters and many things in between. A huge thank you to all the people giving up their time to support the day. This Wednesday, Year 5 will be heading to Jardin Alado for inspiration on their current literacy topic of persuasive writing. They will be examining the for and against arguments of keeping animals in captivity. We hope that they have a great time. Before the break, primary teachers completed the student assessments for Parcial 3. You can expect the Parcial 3 report, which is grades only, around the end of the month. I wish you a wonderful week ahead. Lewis Hutchinson Head of Primary English Enrichment Primary Club We have had a great turn out on our English Enrichment Club, in Primary. Parents and students have learned together in very special sessions. BSQ – Secondary 21st April 2023 After a much deserved Easter break we welcomed everyone back on Monday to what was a very successful week. Year 11 and 13 are finally at the end of their journey at school, with both groups starting study leave as they revise for and sit their formal international examinations. I received some words of encouragement and congratulations from Jonathan Dey, our Regional Head of School’s at Orbital: “As many students all around the world soon head off to study leave, I wanted to take this opportunity to wish your pupils the very best of luck. Please thank your teams for their hard work and commitment getting the students ready for the iGCSE, and IB Diploma Programme exams……. ……. with many IB students losing their iGCSE’s to lockdown – they will be feeling the pressure of these Board exams even more than usual cohorts. We all know how much time tutors and pastoral support colleagues have to spend with the exam students at this time of year”. I am also extremely proud of them all for the resilience and determination that they have shown over the last couple of years. It has been an incredibly challenging journey for all to navigate with significant character tests and life experiences that will inevitably better prepare them for the challenges in the future as an adult. I would also like to congratulate and thank our extremely dedicated colleagues who have nurtured them educationally and pastorally on this journey to the successful position they have each achieved. Well done to all. Using a drama metaphor, ‘they are now in the last act – the crescendo’. Perhaps this is where the focus should escalate even higher to realise deserved reward. To quote an educational leader who has influenced me in my leadership journey over the last 15 years or so, an apt final comment is perhaps “You will get what you deserve!” Focus on the revision and preparation for the final test and be ready to take the curtain call and enjoy the deserved applause and recognition for all you have achieved in the middle of August when the results are published. The very best of luck to you all! This week has also seen sport taking a higher profile again with over 30 students representing under 15 boys and a girls Football team playing an away fixture at the 3rd Decembre School in Checa. This is a school of over 2000 students so as you can imagine the teams they were facing were very strong indeed with many more students to choose from for their teams. Everyone played with pride and passion and represented BSQ valiantly. Well done to all who took part and to Mr Butler, Mrs Berry, Miss Burbano, and Mr Tabango, for their support and enthusiasm in taking them along. On Friday we enjoyed the fun of World Book day with various themes on show. Well done to Juan Diego in Year 7 for winning the overall costume, Mrs Tufino, for the staff costume, and to year 12 for the best themed year group. This is an event that happens annually and we all like the opportunity and occasion to dress up. Finally, excitement is starting to build as the new swimming pool is starting to reveal itself. On Friday the wooden fence that has been a darkening shadow, and with forced movement restrictions was finally removed. I understand that opening events are planned and these will be very soon. I know that the students and staff cannot wait to be able to dip in once all of the safety tests have been completed. More news on this to follow. Lee Moors Head of Secondary Our Community Horse-riding award Orian (Y6) has competed last Sunday 16th April at La Armenia a horse-riding competition and won! While Philippe (Y2) has also competed in a different category and has finished second. We couldn't be prouder of the achievements of our students; their wins are ours as well.
Happy holidays! David Jones Principal Dates for Your Diary Early Years (Nursery and Reception): NO CLASSES THURSDAY (Internal Planning & Organisation) Primary and Secondary: EARLY DEPARTURE – 12 pm THURSDAY David Jones Principal BSQ – Primary Dear BSQ Community, Last week saw a very busy but enjoyable week in primary. Year 5 enjoyed their trip to the Banco de Alimentos in Quito and were able to see some of the practical work that the World Food Programme do in Ecuador to support those in need. For many, it was a real eye opener to the struggles of others within our wider community. Also, Wednesday saw the fantastic dance and arts festival. Thank you to the many of you who came along to watch the dances and view the art exhibition. The children have been working tirelessly on their dances during the term, with the support and guidance of Ms. Maria Fernanda and Mr. Fernando. Thank you to all of those involved for making the event so special. With the Easter break coming up, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a wonderful, restful break. Please remember that students finish school at 12pm on Thursday (except for Early Years who finish at 3.15pm on Wednesday) and we look forward to welcoming students back to school on Monday, April 17th. I wish you a wonderful week ahead. Lewis Hutchinson Head of Primary
Dance festival and Enrichment exhibition I just wished to take a moment to say a heartfelt, thank you. This was our first dance festival and Enrichment exhibition, the first of many, and it wouldn't have been possible without the collaboration of our whole community. Right from the beginning, this event had a flow that was beyond fabulous. We were blown away by how talented our students are in different artistic disciplines. Thanks to all the parents for their organization regarding costumes and all the positive feedback we have received. Thanks to all our staff for your time, guidance and support before, during and after the event. Finally, a huge thanks to our students, who overcome their shyness and stage fright to give us marvelous performances. Hats off to you!! There are not enough words for me to say that our hearts are glowing and that you and all of your work and dedication are appreciated. Ms Sibone, Mr Fer and Ms MaFernanda. BSQ – Secondary 31st March 2023 We have had more excitement again to end the week with the wonderfully organised and supported house day organised by Mr Butler. On Friday morning all students in the Secondary school enjoyed a number of different events to create some excitement and competition for our community. Our older students enjoyed a tug-of-war competition and further down in the school there were competitions for ‘Futsal’ which is a game that has its roots in Latin America that is a form of football with a smaller and harder ball to really focus on skill development, ‘Softball’ which is a game that is broadly similar to baseball but easier to manage in school, and ‘Rounders’ which is a game that is very popular in schools in the UK in the summer where students have to essentially hit the ball and run around bases. The highlight for me was year 5 from Primary who were challenged on the way out of the school on a school trip to play a game of tug-of-war with 4 of our larger Secondary gentlemen. The mass of year 5 students assisted by Mrs Woolard were victorious and the older boys were defeated with ease. Well done year 5!! As you can see form the photos below the victory was very significant for Mrs Woolard J The options events for years 9 and 11 were a huge success and I am very grateful for our parents for their support. Now that the options presentations have been delivered along with the forms we would be extremely grateful for a quick response so that we can start planning timetables and teaching groups. Whilst this is commitment, as always, we will allow some flexibility at the start of the new academic year if students feel that they may have made an error in a choice. In Year 11 this will also be informed by the eventual IGCSE results and Q2 exam outcomes. The pass mark is essentially a C grade so we hope that year 11 are focused on their revision and preparation to meet this point at least if they are taking the subject into IB. The link to the presentations for the Year 9 IGCSE options and the Year 11 IB options are here:
A reminder again that the Easter break is fast approaching and this is a key time for year 11 and 13 as they step off of the staff led teaching and revision to more self-directed activity. This year we are giving study leave as was the case prior to the COVID pandemic. Now that we are fully back to normal, students will take the opportunity to study independently for their formal face-to-face examinations. A reminder that year 11 study leave starts on 24th April and year 13 starts on the 27th April. There have been specific letters of guidance on this already sent so if you have missed this please get in touch with Sandy and she will send you a copy. Year 11 and 13 are almost there. Year 11 have 7 more teaching days and year 13 only 10 more. Parents please keep your son or daughter focused at home and try to find some time for them to study during the break. The time away is good for some rest and recuperation but the brain could do with keeping on the boil. We have three more residential events planned with year 8 due to go on the 22nd May, Year 10 on the 29th May, and Year 11 on the 12th June. We are tentatively confirming these but please be aware that if there are protests and civil unrest nearer he time and we deem it unsafe for them to depart then they will be rolled over into next year. I have spoken with Mr Tabango to continue with the planning for now. A reminder that school finishes on Thursday 6th April at 12.00 pm as this is the end of a long term into the Easter Holidays. This is a time for family and celebration, and in my house lots of chocolate, and I wish you all a very happy Easter. Have a great break everyone and year 11 and 13 work hard exams are just around the corner!! Lee Moors Head of Secondary Sports and Extracurricular ActivitiesFootball at BSQ Here at BSQ we have been exceptionally busy. Our 11A students have made much recent progress and have worked admirably to ensure they are prepared for their mocks, which they have now completed. I was proud to see the diligence exhibited by our students in terms of their commitment to their study and their passion for progress. I am sure that all students have exceeded their own targets, as well as the schools. Our focus now moves past mocks to their IGCSE exams, which I am sure they will tackle in the same efficient manner. We have but two weeks left of lessons before 11A depart for study leave, and it is imperative that we use this time to iron out any creases and grease the gears to ensure that everything is running smoothly. When they return after study leave, they will be sitting their exams and after that, we will be heading to the Galapagos for our much-awaited trip! This will be the perfect send of for Year 11 and a worthwhile reward for the commitment they have put into the year. Sport is on the rise here at BSQ and we have planned and executed a number of tournaments and fixtures in recent weeks. We have had some success from our boys football teams, but the crowning achievement has been the girls team. We managed to get the girls team up and running within 24 hours, with huge numbers, which enabled us to arrange a fixture for the following week. This fixture was fulfilled to great success, where we were able to put out two girls football teams which both enjoyed wins, a fantastic start for our girls. I am in the processing of organising more fixtures and more tournaments- watch this space! Pictured below are our fantastic girls. We are all so proud of you, well to you all! Best wishes, Mr Butler The Brit Cup The British School Quito had a friendly match versus the UK embassy staff last Friday. Our team had different players form our community, academic, administrative and students as well. The British School Quito won the game and won the beautiful "Brit Cup". It is the kick-off of different sport activities that The British School Quito will organize together with other British Institutions in Ecuador in order to strengthen relationships throughout sport. ¡¡Felicitaciones a ustedes!!
Ya falta poco para Year 11 y Year 13. Día Mundial del LibroThought for the week; “He who laughs most, learns best.” John Cleese We have a lot of sectional news for you this week so I will restrict my comments to a simple reminder to please complete the CIS community survey as soon as possible. Your opinions are essential to our ongoing work and we would like at least a 90% completion rate if possible. If you have already completed the survey thank you very much for your support. The survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete. You should complete one survey per child enrolled in the school. We hope you can spare some time to help the school in its desire to improve. The survey will be available until the 31st of March. To access the survey, please click on this link: https://survey.cois.org/s3/Parent-Guardian-2022-2023-British-School-Quito Thank you very much for completing the survey. David Jones Principal BSQ – PrimaryDear BSQ Community, Thank you for attending the Parent Teacher Conferences on Friday, it was wonderful to see so many of you engaging with the teachers and hearing about the wonderful progress that your children are making academically, socially and as the leaders of tomorrow. A big thank you also to the Year 4 team for their brilliantly organised trip to the water museum last Tuesday; the students had a wonderful time and also learned a lot about the sustainable use of water. Year 5 are now preparing for their trip on Friday to the Banco de Alimentos, linking into their work with the World Food Programme and their understanding on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 2 ´zero hunger. ´ Well done to the U10s football team who have been competing this week (more details below). A huge thank you to Mr. Fernando and Mr. Butler for taking the children to the games, coaching them and also giving their best impression of Pep Guardiola from the side-line. I look forward to seeing many of you on Wednesday for the dance and arts festival involving students from Reception to Year 6. I wish you a wonderful week ahead. Lewis Hutchinson Head of Primary We are glad to invite our Primary community to the First Dance festival and the Enrichment exhibition for KS2 students. The event will be held on March 29th, starting at 13h30. Our students have worked very hard to show how talented they are in different disciplines and arts. We are looking forward to seeing you all! Mr Fernando, Ms Sibone and Ms MaFernanda. BSQ – Secondary 24th March 2023 What a wonderful end to the week. Whilst the rain tried to spoil the culture day events on Friday, our resilient staff and students soldiered on to provide us all with some interesting facts, customs and tasty treats for a number of different countries around the World. The day started with each form group preparing a stand to provide a rich visual image of the allocated country. For me the colours of Brazil were stunningly presented by year 12 and the efforts of year 11 and the Egyptian stand were excellent. The girls were very happy to become bejewelled for the occasion. The dancing followed next with each tutor group preforming a traditional dance for the country they were focusing on, and finally everyone toured the world with their passports experiencing some culture as part of their travels. This was a hugely successful event and its success is a credit to Miss sanchez who led the planning and preparation mustering the staff and students. A fantastic experience for all. The following images will give you a flavour of the wonderful work done and the commitment the students gave to their contributions. This week sees year 9 and 11 receiving presentations on options as they continue to the next stage in learning. Both presentations will take place in the Library at 08.20 am after the drive through has finished. Please park in the car park and make your way over just after 8. There will be a welcome coffee and an opportunity to catch up with some key staff before the events take place. Miss Standley will introduce IGCSE options to year 9 parents on Tuesday 28th and Mrs Montenegro will introduce the IB study options to the parents of year 11 students on Wednesday 29th. We will also be ensuring the students are also present as these decisions must involve them as well. The Easter break is fast approaching and this is a key time for year 11 and 13 as they step off of the staff led teaching and revision to more self-directed activity. Once exams are done year 13 will follow our bespoke futures curriculum to prepare them for life beyond BSQ, and year 11 will be doing activity to prepare them for the demands of the IB programme. This will include activity on Community Action Service, The Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay. These are key core elements of the Diploma Programme. They will also be enjoying the experiences offered in the World of Work with a formal work experience week that is being arranged by Miss Sanchez. We have managed to keep this going with various adaptations due to the COVID pandemic but we are now happy to say that we are back to full and normal work experience programme. If you are a parent with a Business and you would be happy to host one of our students for the week we would be extremely grateful for your support. Please get in touch with Miss Sanchez and we can make the arrangements. These are really important lessons for teenagers about the responsibilities and demands of the work place in the future. We have a varied resource of potential work places in our community and it is fantastic to be able to share this with our children. Do please support if you can. Have a great week everyone! Lee Moors Head of Secondary Year 10 Another week in the bag our year 10’s. Congratulations to both Naomi and Domenica, who played in a football tournament on Wednesday. They played brilliantly and their year 10 classmates are very proud of them both. The year 10’s have also been working hard this week at lunchtime preparing for their future duke of Edinburgh expedition and for our school exposition on Friday where they will be representing the great nations of Canada and Mexico. The year 10s also enjoyed the green week last week, some of them told us how much they enjoyed it: “I enjoyed Green week because we got to learn about RM Bowles life before our school and I learned about his marine biology in the Galapagos, which was interesting, especially his research on sharks. I also liked the scavenger hunt and the documentary I made.” “I enjoyed Green Week because we had the time to learn about our environment. I liked to learn about our environment and how it involved several different activities such as scavenger hunt and comic strip drawing. I learned about new things such as the spectacled bear is a close relative of the Panda Bear and Paddington bear is also and Andean Spectacled Bear. Cool." Mr. Martin Sports and Extracurricular Activities Soccer Team Primary This week the under 10 soccer championship began at the Marie Clarac School, we are proud to present ourselves with this BSQ team. We are going to play 4 games and among the participating schools are: Marie Clarac, Pachamama, Harriet, Gutemberg and of course BSQ. We played our first game on Monday, March 20, it was a game with a lot of emotions, the Marie Clarac College started by scoring a goal and finally our team won 3-1. We are convinced that participating of this tournament is going to generate a team spirit amongst the students and will improve each match in their abilities. Karate Within our extracurricular activities we have Karate Lessons with the team of León Martial Arts Academy. It is definitely one of the preferred options of our students due to the dynamics, discipline and learning that they have in each class. Our Community CriArte Invitation

Nuestra ComunidadCriArte Invitation
Thought for the week; “If you make listening and observation your occupation you will gain much more than you can by talk.” Robert Baden-Powell After an amazing couple of weeks working around the issues of sustainability, conservation, and mathematics, the next couple of weeks our academic team will be busy with staffing observations and Deep Dive project development as we focus on the quality of teaching and learning here at BSQ. A great deal has been going on behind the scenes in areas such as data informed learning, student voice, sustainability, support for learning, wellbeing and additional language learning and we look forward to unveiling new initiatives and developments in the not-too-distant future. For now, we wish you another great BSQ week! David Jones Principal Dates for Your Diary Wednesday March 29th: 1.30pm - Primary Arts Festival Friday March 24th: Primary Parent-Teacher Conferences David Jones Principal BSQ – Primary Dear BSQ Community, Last week marked a fun week for primary, especially our wonderful Pi Day celebration of which you can read much more about below. A huge thank you to Mrs. Vasilokonstantaki, Mr. Prosser and Ms. Kerigan for organising the event and for showing everyone just how fun maths is! Another busy week this week with the Year 4 trip to the water museum happening tomorrow (March 21st), and of course our second parent teacher conferences (PTCs) happening this Friday (March 24th). Please remember that if you have not yet scheduled your appointments, you have until Wednesday (March 22nd) to do so. Something else to celebrate is our commitment to sustainability and how this is beginning to embed in our curriculum. Following on from our sustainability theme week, Key Stage 2 students were treated to a talk from a maritime conservation and shark expert last week. Additionally, a group of Year 5 and 6 students are involved in a serious of workshops with conservationist and cartoonist, Mr. Alan Hesse. They are exploring more around food security and are working with the World Food Programme to put together a cookbook of healthy, sustainable recipes. A big thank you to all those involved with this project. Finally, please remember to save the date of Wednesday March 29th at 1.30pm when we will host our primary arts festival, including a wonderful dance from every year group from Reception to Year 6. I wish you a wonderful week ahead. Lewis Hutchinson Head of Primary PI Day Costumes BSQ – SecondaryAnd Breathe Last week’s crunch time seems like an age ago now. Year 13 had a super tough couple of days with the last of the submissions. I would like to thank you staff for their unending flexibility and patience with the students but specifically Natalie Moors and Paola Montenegro who has the huge task of uploading all of the paperwork and evidence to IB for the subject in this round of submissions. This is not someth9ing that takes a couple of hours, in fact a few days and as always, I am extremely appreciative of our teamwork and dedication in Secondary to covering their classes to allow the time. We are very lucky to have such a talented and committed set of teachers working at BSQ. A huge well done to Mr Bowles, Miss Sawyers and the students involved in the fun activities held on Wednesday and Thursday as part of our ‘Green Week’ sustainability focus. Please look out for the wider information and images from what was an outstanding success. By now you will have received a letter from Mr Jones with the news that Natalie and I will be leaving at the end of this academic year. This was a very difficult decision due to our friendships at school and in the community, and the wonderful school we are part of, and the children who make it what it is. This is our third year in Ecuador and it is now time for us to take what is a fantastic opportunity to return to our home in the UK and join a nearby school. Natalie will also be stepping up to leadership in her new role which is well deserved and the right time in her career. Our time here has been hugely rewarding, even in the dark distant days of the COVID pandemic. For us there will be many things we will miss, especially in the dark, damp, and cold February days in the UK winter when we think back to the wonderful climate we enjoy here. For me I will miss the children and the very community that makes such a successful and wonderful school for all of our children. I look forward to what remains of the year and I hope to be able to say goodbye personally to you all later in June. The school is set well for the future and I am pleased with the colleagues who will be taking it to the next steps. Have a great week everyone! Lee Moors Head of Secondary YEAR 9 Year 9 have been working very hard over the last two weeks to prepare their presentation for the International Day in school. I don't want to give too much away about which Country they are representing, but they have been working very well together as a team. This collaborative work has seen them preparing a tradition dance for their represented country, as well as designing decorations and organising traditional foods to be made by different students. We are really looking forward to their final presentations at the end of this month.
